Kids were supposed to unload the groceries from trunk of the car. They missed a whole chicken. And it stayed in there I don't know how many days during the height of summer. Made them scrub the trunk and shampoo the hell out of it. Last time that happened.

As others mentioned, opening the fridge/freezer days after losing power from a storm. We were gone for a week after Ike and both our refrigerator and freezer smelled disgusting.
Another horrible smell I remember was back when my cousin and I were in high school. He played football and was on the power lifting team. As part of his workout routine he'd drink these protein powder shakes along with taking amino acids.
fricker would let out farts that would clear the room and make you start gagging. It was unreal how truly nasty the smell was.

Western Kansas with all of the meat processing facilities and cattle and their waste.
Had to go to Dodge City for work. Made the mistake of staying at the hotel across the road from the Excel Packing plant in the Winter time. It was pretty bad.
Absolute worst though was Summer in Louisiana. One of our cows died and I found it a few days later. Disgusting smell.

Cdiff + GI bleed.
Poor bastard shat/bled himself nearly to death.
Nothing like pumping antibiotics in bilateral feet IVs (oh yeah, the guy had both arms blown off in Iraq) while mass transfusing blood products through a central line.
The cdiff + the gi bleed + the skin breakdown on his perineum was the worst thing I've ever smelled and top 10 worst things I've ever seen in my career.
Tied for 2nd: dog food manufacturing plant near Visalia, California and Red Star yeast plant near Headland, AL.

I imagine the rotten meat had to be similar to a dead body.
Its different. I was a butcher for a few years, had to smell rotting meat on several occasions. It was rough. A few years later I was working as a locksmith. we got a call to rekey a house that a persons older mom had passed in, a day or so before. Smell still filled the house. Its one you know after you smell it.

Fishing with a friend on a neighbors dock, a massive tuna fish carcass floated towards us. Huge fish. As it got closer you could see thousands of worms going in and out of the rotting flesh. I caught the first whiff and puked up my breakfast of rice krispy treat cereal then about 5 seconds later my buddy ran down the dock and puked his breakfast. Still the worst.

We were on a plane that was coming back from Vegas, We had to land at a different airport to wait for weather to clear at our destination airport. It was an August afternoon in Texas, A/C was not working well so it was about 90 inside the plane, and then it happened. Several rows in front of us, we started hearing people moaning and you could see it working its way toward the rear of the plane. The worst fart you can possibly imagine.

In 4th grade our school thought it would be a good idea to do a field trip to the city sewage/waste facility. Kids were throwing up and crying. It smelled so bad. Literally an entire city’s shite in one place, it was awful.

A truck from a chicken processing plant carrying the waste? of the chicken processing leaked on the I-20 overpass in Monroe a while back. We were the 5th car behind when the troopers stopped all traffic. If you've ever smelled a chicken processing plant smell, we got the concentrated version. For about 30 minutes....thought we were gonna die. Several people sued because the stuff ate the paint off their cars when they drove through it.
