What is the science behind "getting into a groove"?

We all know the feeling of getting into the groove when working... the question is what exactly causes our body to get into a groove?

For example you may work 8 hours per day, but only a couple of those hours were into a groove at your far most productive.

It happens randomly for me. Some days can get a good 4 hour stretch of productivity, where other days I may only get into the groove for 30 minutes at most.

It revolves around sleep and whether you and the wife are bitching about something.

Deadlines and a personal decision to just fricking win.

There's probably some chemicals in the brain that explode as a result of these but I'm no brain scientist.

You want to check out Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. I’m sure you can find some articles that are summaries. This is going to be from the psychological perspective. Steven Kotler is a good popular author currently writing about the same ideas. If you’re more interested in the neuroscience search default mode network.

4 hours or 30 minutes is all? You may need to get a doctor to give you a thorough checkup.
