The fly was the first place I went to when I visited New Orleans
I grew up at the River View. I remember when the Allman Bros. played a free concert there.
I've seen the original of this photo which has been shopped due to the poor quality of the original:

The weird looking building in the top photo was called the Butterfly. That part of Audubon park was called the River View (or just The View). I think people still refer to the River View as the Butterfly, even though the building is gone now.

A better question is what's the purpose of those species that live off the fly and mosquito

Very cool. Yeah I’ve definitely heard stories from folks who caught concerts out there. They all refer to it as The Butterfly.

Flies have a purpose.
I cannot for the life of me figure out the purpose of a wasp or mosquito other than the fact they are the assholes of the insects

A little known fact about wasps is that they are nature’s pest controllers. When they are not busy stinging us or building their nests inside our homes and/or workplaces, they are preying on the insects and parasites which can damage crops and other vegetation.
Many wasp species are the natural predators of many insects, thus helping to keep pest populations low. Wasps prey and feed on insects from our gardens and parks and bring them back to their nest as a tasty meal for their young.
Other species of wasp are parasitic, which still lends us a hand in pest control. Small parasitic wasps help manage pests such as aphids in an agricultural setting. Parasitic wasps use living host subjects such as spiders and caterpillars to lay their eggs in. Once the eggs have hatched the larvae feed on the living host from the inside out. Wasps are generally apex predators - so if they’re not doing well, it indicates that there is something wrong with the world.
