Another simple question: Do you guys think they will eventually be banned? To own legally, I mean.

Obvious troll, but let's play along. If the government goes tyrannical and the citizenry needs to fight back. Before you say how ridiculous that sounds, there's a well documented history of tyrranical regimes confiscating weapons before they move on mass genocide.

It's no troll. It's a simple question, and people like the nutcase at the school makes it a topical question, whether or not you like it. It's also a pretty good bet taht people like him are also going to make it really hard for folks like you to legally buy them.

Oh, and the purpose of an automobile that can go over 75 is to go somewhere fast.

But it is illegal to drive over 75. So having a car that can go over the speed limit is not practical.

Wouldn't it be practical to govern all vehicles so they don't travel over 75 mph. Wouldn't that make us safer?

to fight back against a corrupt government.

You can use plenty of reasons to own one but this is not one of them. If it is then you missed it by a couple hundred years and if you think owning an AR is going to stop corruption then you are whistling Dixie.

Same purpose as assault baseball bats, assault cars, assault knives, or assault 2X4s.

Get the point?

What if your wife had a heart attack and you want to get her to the hospital, fast? That's a practical reason to have a faster car.

Are you implying that these type weapons aren't safe?

Have you ever used night vision? What about a thermal camera? Now strap those on a silent drone with hellfire missiles. Your little AR ain't gonna do shite against that. And what about cruise missiles? M1 Abrams? Whatever else the government has hiding away? The idea that the second amendment will protect you from a tyrannical government is a fricking joke.

That said, you do have the right to own the AR, but let's not kid ourselves with the "fight big brother" argument.

Any politician that seriously pushes for it is committing career suicide. The Dems could have easily done it when they held all three branches - they didn't. Politicians only seriously care about one thing. That's getting re-elected.

I don't think that will happen. Honestly, though, I think they will probably eventually be banned from new sales.

Personally, I don't give a flying leap either way. Some of my friends have them and they like them. I think some folks like them just because they think they look cool.

I know, right?

We handled the Taliban a got out of Afghanistan quickly. It's not like they control more territory now than they did before the war started.

What type of weapons are safe? Weapons are labeled as such not because they are safe, but because they are able to cause harm.
