When I renewed my passport I also ordered a passport card. Works for domestic flights, and going into/out of Mexico & Canada. Also works for cruises.
I have not tried it in the Caribbean, but I have heard it works there as well.

well since any illegal immigrant can get a drivers license and regular ID even though they have no "real" identity other then a stolen and/or fake soc sec number, the real ID is designed to be a proven form of "real" identification that has been verified.

Pretty sure LA was given another extension and you can still fly with a "normal" LA drivers license until 2020

You can get a passport card which is the same size as your DL

Me too. I never hand anyone except police my drivers license, everyone gets my id.

My license expired last week so I when I renewed I just went through the steps of getting a Real ID.
It wasn't a huge deal, bring two bills with address, social security card and your passport and they just verify you are who you are and live where you say you live. Costs the same as a regular DL.
