It's a matter of perspective.

If you haven't lost a child to a drunk driver, you might think they're being a bit silly.

If you have lost a child to a drunk driver, you have some idea of the indescribable pain of losing one in an instant.

Pray to remain in the first group.

Don't we have standard sentencing for DWIs (at least for first offense)?

For a guy that delivers pizzas you sure do seem to know a lot about search and seizure laws.

They've got to be making a bunch of money. Maybe it started out as a support group, but they are a huge lobby now that completely supports prohibition....for everyone but themselves of course.

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of them do, or at least the ones who aren't making gobs of money off of drinking fines.

They have annual functions where they pay officers for the most DWI arrests. Not convictions, arrests
quote:

The founding president of MADD, Candy Lightner, left in disgust from the organization that she herself created because of its change in goals. "It has become far more neo-prohibitionist than I ever wanted or envisioned," she says. "I didn't start MADD to deal with alcohol. I started MADD to deal with the issue of drunk driving." 5 Ms. Lightner has emphasized the importance of distinguishing between alcohol and drinking on one hand and drunk driving on the other. 6

Ms. Lightner has apparently put her finger on the problem when she says that if MADD really wants to save lives, it will go after the real problem drivers. 7 Instead, it has become temperance-oriented.

Didn't someone affiliated with MADD get boozed up and crash his boat into a pier?

I think it's good and bad.

Good that they use guilt to disuade people from driving drunk; but bad because it's a group determined to strip civil rights and amendments from an American citizen.

My mother was killed by a DD. I contacted MADD. They were no help in my case. This was in Mississippi, however. I'm not sure what I expected, but at the time I was so angry I don't imagine anything would have seemed sufficient.
