I tried to do a mild form of keto a few years ago, but it was just too expensive. I couldn’t afford to make meat and veggies for every meal. I rely on stretching cheap cuts of meat from here to eternity with starches in order to keep my meals tasty but affordable. I’ll try it again if I get in a better place financially. Steak, grilled chicken, and cooked veggies are all things I love. I just can’t afford to do those all the time, and they don’t reheat well at work.
Rice & gravy, on the other hand, is way cheaper to make, is more time consuming but requires way less attention (a lot of crockpot) and reheats much better.

No offense, but your palate and your diet is all fricked up, and you're just making excuses.

Bread. I can walk away from sugar and booze easily enough, but bread (regular bread, crackers, tortillas, pasta, pizza crust, etc.) are my Kryptonite.

“ Yeah but they have access to that legit olive oil too”
So do you. I order mine. It’s called Zoe. I think it was rated one of the best and it’s from the Mediterranean. You can find huge cans on Amazon

Lack of exercise is a major one. But I also have a tendency to not eat much during the day and then eat way too much at night. Also take a sleep med that gives me insane munchies so it makes it that much worse.

Look into your bills and see where you can save with new contracts. A few years ago (because of inflation) I decided to do this and ended up saving 4K per year. New car insurance, new cell contract, new internet contract, I cut cable and get everything other ways, cut all extra streaming services, cut serius Xm, etc. I wasn’t even really using the stuff I cut and the rest was just getting better deals. That leaves plenty of money for healthier food

Trazodone, although that med will put a shitload of weight on a person too.

The idea that healthy food cannot taste good is bullshite and a weak excuse.
Relax Sharon, I don't use it as an excuse. I eat a "clean and healthy" breakfast and lunch every day. Same thing day in and day out. Supper time, I want to cook something different. I cook almost every night. Sometimes is a little "healthier" sometimes it's just comfort food.

I could look into the insurance. I already don’t have cable and only pay for one streaming service, but I could probably get a better deal from my ISP. Thanks!

Trazadone is a cousin of an ssri if you don’t know. That stuff will flat line you emotionally (no highs no lows) and alter your sex drive, among other things. If you notice and don’t like it, try something else. I’m saying from experience because I didn’t know. I just needed something to help me fall asleep years ago. Those effects slowly creep into your life without you noticing, until you do and you wonder what is wrong with you

Is it, though? I can take $8 worth of pork shoulder roast and make it into 8 meals worth of food my way. Or, I can get $8 worth of steak and eat it for one meal.
$5 worth of cheap deli meat and $2 worth of bread is 5 meals. $7 worth of salmon is one meal.
Heck, I made easily 8 meals worth of red beans and rice from a leftover holiday ham bone my family was going to throw away.

Yes, because you're not getting enough protein. Look, if you're in that dire of financial straits to where you can basically only afford rice and beans, that's fine. You'll get no argument from me that rice and beans is cheaper and can be stretched farther than steak (although you can still get cheapish ground beef, which I eat a lot of) and many other forms of protein.
But having that be a mainstay of your diet isn't healthy and contributes to weight gain, and if I'm being honest, probably doesn't help your mental health either.

Then why did you say that "good food" is one thing that is preventing you from losing weight?

I like to eat more than I like to exercise.
And climate change.

i guess it depends but ill bite.
At the dollar store sweet potatoes are much cheaper than a bag of potato chips.
Go with the sweet potato over the bag of chips.
