what is the groom is wearing a casual suit?

Then I guess that's his fault for showing up to his wedding under-dressed .

You can be the overdressed because everyone and their mom is underdressed. i.e. went to a wedding in back woods Mississippi and wore a suit and tie. People were wearing shorts and tshirts.

You can also be overdressed because you are overdressed. i.e. wearing a suit and tie to a bar-b-que.

The last summer job interview I went to, boy. It paid pretty good money ($20 an hour) for a summer job and I knew they wouldn't like that I'd only be available for like a month. So I went in a suit. Jeez, there were people who were wearing sandals and t-shirts. There was a rotund girl blarring loudly that her school was known for their "hoes".

again...yes you can

I was actually told once that if the guy hadn't already known me, he wouldn't have offered me a job because I wore a suit after he told me that it was going to be a very casual interview

I suppose if someone specifies casual attire for a job interview, then yeah by all means, wear casual attire. If they don't specify, then there is no overdressing. My default assumption is dress to impress.

It just boggles my mind that any potential employer would count it as a negative that I give a damn about my appearance.

I wore seersucker. I'm just messing around. But I will not feel self conscious wearing a suit to a wedding if others aren't. I don't think people can look down on you for wearing a suit in that situation.

I'm not saying to wear a white tux to an outdoor BBQ. But if you meet friends for dinner and you have on a suit jacket on and they are in polos, I don't think you're being showy. You're just better dressed.

There are always exceptions to the rule, but in general I would say you can't be overdressed.

It's like going to the Red Eye after standing in a wedding. Yeah, you're overdressed but who gives a frick?

After one of my best friend's weddings, we went to Masquerade at Harrah's with his wife still in her wedding dress. Damn good times.

Hell no. And I knew I wouldn't get it. I had something else already lined up for later on in the summer. I was honest and said I could work a month at best, but I had already done the training required in the hours I was contracted for, I would piss excellence. No go.

NASCAR t-shirts are a staple at Mississippi weddings and funerals. Some wearers are reflective and react to the sober nature of a high holy day by busting out the Dale Earnhardt Sr. memorial garb. That always ratchets up the seriousness of the crowd. "Nice shirt dude. He was the boss."

Unless you're required to perform some kind of manual labor at the interview a suit should always be acceptable at an interview.

You should look one step above what is expected to be worn on the job, not a whole ladder.

My grandpa was a very Southern gentleman. He wore a suit to a Saints game, the beach, and my little league games.
