9/11 as far as a event that affected millions of people. I can remember waiting for class to start when the news broke. Not everyone had cell phones etc. I remember walking from Lockett to the union and watching the second building collapse on one of those old box TV's. Truly was a depressing moment filled with uncertainty I will never forget.
Side note LSU beating UF in 97rushing the Field with my dad and finishing off his flask with him at midfield that was a happy time!!

The 3-5 days of a college friends suicide then funeral. Horrendous days to be that sad and that drunk (it was still college). I was 20.
Watching as my dad told my mom that her mother had died suddenly. I was 13 and just staring blankly at the whole thing. Too young to offer any substance. I don't think I even spoke. Just watched my moms face over dads shoulder.
My dads moms funeral. Again I was now maybe 14. I walked up to my grandpa at the funeral home with the rest of the men. I'm 14 again, in line with 40-60 year old coonasses. Everybody giving him the man hand shake and pat on the back of condolence. I tried to do the same. Just following the crowd. He was a mechanic his hands were fricking massive. He shook my WHOLE hand in his fist and pulled me in and started crying. Actual sobs. I lost EVERY bit of my 14 year old shite. My first "man" cry. That was 1987. It is dusty in this room now as I type. Lol

I was a volunteer firefighter for a while. I got a call to go to a vehicle accident. When I got there there was a car split in half and a teenage boy standing by the side of the road. As I looked down there were 3 girls lying dead, 2 of them had been cut in half by the guardrail that they hit. It's almost like witnessing something from outside of your own body. Like standing in a warzone knowing bad shite has happened but no way to process it and no way to understand what happened. So I just stood there looking around. There were body parts everywhere and it was absolute silence except for the hissing of the car that was destroyed. I saw police officers openly weeping on the side of the road. I finally walked to the car and in the back seat I saw 3 beer cans and I immediately knew what happened and that this was probably no accident at all. And that 3 teenage girls died because of drunk driving.
That singular event has haunted me for years. I still dream about it. The police dept had counselors brought in because it was such a fricked up situation. I didn't take the time to meet with them but I probably should have.

Knew ol' Gene myself. Multiple decorations for valor in WWII, one of which was the Medal of Honor. He trained bird dogs for a living and was the most incredible shot with a firearm I've ever seen. I can assure you that dickless would've been dead if Gene had wanted to kill him.

Seeing first hand the results of what a drunk driver can do, has given me a visceral hatred for anyone who does it.

Saw a guy collapse and die on the soccer field in a adult league game a couple of years ago like 25 feet away from me.

Probably both times my grandparents died. They take you back to the hospital room, and you see them just lying there. In some instances, they don't even make an attempt to change the expression on their face.
I also had a college instructor die during spring break. Literally the final day of class, I was taking a test and the dude kept making these coughing noises, like he was trying to clear chest congestion. The middle of spring break, he falls out dead in his kitchen.
Was very strange the next several weeks of class with the new instructor.

when I was in the sixth grade a classmate of mine and her whole family died in a house fire. The funeral was very surreal, all five caskets lined up in the church including the baby one.
To make it even worse, the family was very well off, and since their were no heirs left, to two sides of their families had a bitter fight over who got the money. It went to court with the two sides trying to prove whether the husband or wife died first to determine who got the money. some sorry folks

I may not have seen it in person, but watching that plane crash into the tower, seeing people jumping to their death, and the towers falling down is something I will never forget. The amount of people we saw die right in front of us, and on live TV in front of the world, is hands down the most emotional thing I've ever witnessed.
I was 12 years old and walked into 2nd period algebra. The teacher was in tears and none of us knew why until she turned the TV on. Turns out, she had a brother who worked in one of the buildings. I will never, ever forget that as long as I live.
Personally, both of my grandfathers died within a year. One we knew was coming, one suddenly. They were great friends and had their funeral receptions in the same place. Walking into the second funeral reception brought back too many memories of the first one and I broke down.

Worked at a jet ski rental/parasailing place one summer. We had an area set up in the water marked by orange bouys for the jet skiers to operate in. The parasail boat was anchored just outside of this area, 31' boat. Obviously, the renters were told to steer clear of the large fricking boat that's sitting there.
In walks a couple of younger guys to rent 3 skis. I get them started and explain what to do/what not to do and send them on their way.
About 5 minutes later, a couple comes down and I'm explaining everything to them with my back to the water, well all of a sudden I heard 'WooooBOOM!!'
I look back, and one of the dudes crashed into the parasail boat at about 45-50 mph, I see the ski in the side of the boat but no person.
I haul arse to my ski and get out to him in about 30 seconds, dude was floating on his back, blood coming out of every hole in his face, I puked a little. He wasn't moving, breathing or anything. I grabbed his life jacket and took off for shore.
Guys mom was on the beach watching this all happen, but didn't know if it was her kid or not. I get him to the beach and she loses her shite. I still to this day have never heard a human scream like that.
Life flight came about 10 minutes later but guy was already dead.

Need some good vibes in this thread....
For me, looking at my son in my hands after being delivered. Went thru a lot to get him, as he was a test tube baby. Did a lot of praying to get that boy.

Went through the exact same scenario. Miscarriages, failed IUIs, failed IVF. When my son got here in January, I just can't even describe how my wife and I felt.

There has been quite a few of them but I saw my teacher get the call that his father hung himself in his garage. That was pretty tough to watch.

Similar but we had my son the old-fashioned way. But we went through tough miscarriages and it was an at-risk pregnancy. He was born 10 weeks early. Holding him was pretty awesome feeling.

Seeing my dad sob after my grandfather passed away from a year's worth of Alzheimer's. Only time I've ever seen him break :(

I was with my father when he lost his battle to brain cancer.
I also had to tell my mother that her youngest brother had been found dead.

When I was in my early 20's and about to put our boat on a trailer, there were some kids jumping into the bayou teche where i lived and one of them didn't come back up. I watched someone finally pull him out of the water and try to revive him for about 15 minutes until the paramedics got there, but he was dead. That was gut wrenching.
