I'm going on a road trip soon and this area will probably serve as an overnight stop.

Hammond is Hammond and Covington is Covington.

About 22 miles and loads of meth trailers separate the two cities.

How old are you and what day are you stopping? If you stop between Monday and Thursday and are within a reasonable college aged range, stop in Hammond and go downtown for some drinks and dinner

Hammond has a pretty nice, walkable downtown with several really good restaurants and drinking spots.

Having lived in Hammond for a year... stay in Covington
Ahh hell, just stay in BR... it's only 45 mins away
Or, get some Livingston Parish culture and stay in Walker or Denham Springs if you like that methy vibe

Then I can get up early and get across the bridge before the first crash of the day shuts it down?

If your into craft beer - Gnarly Barley Brewery & Low Road Brewery reside in Hammond. Blackened Brew DT serves good food & has good draft beer selection.

Not be a victim of a violent crime or have my car broken into.
Other than that, my requirements are pretty low.

That's about as good as a plan can get

Hammond is more redneck, Covington is now a suburb of New Orleans, both have decent hotels and all the chain restaurants.

Then you will be fine in either city.

I'd probably stick with BR then...Stay right off 10 on college, acadian, or downtown and just hop on the bridge in the am. Better than dealing with rush hour traffic on 12

Good plan. There are plenty of hotels that aren't in dangerous areas. This board scares the shite out of people from visiting BR, Nola
