Yea PJ's drops your hourly rate from $7.50 to $4 when you get dispatched on deliveries. It goes back when you check back in they started that about 2010.
In 2015, they got them fancy thumb print systems now with GPS+algorithms that tells you what delivery to take first, second, third etc based on turns, distance, order time .
When I started in 94, they handed you a paper folder with a xeroxed copies of Mapsco maps for the area with street index.

I assumed the delivery charge was a convenience fee. Supply and demand. If the price for carry-out was the same as delivery, then everyone would just order delivery. So they charge the fee so that it's not over run, and people who actually want to pay a premium to get food delivered to their door will still have that option.

It's to subsidize the too-good-to-be-true specials they all run on TV. Two extra large two topping pizzas for only $12?? Oh yeah, add the $4 delivery fee at checkout, and factor in the "extra large" is actually just a "large" by traditional standards, profit.
I delivered for PJ's nearly 20 years ago, we were paid $6+/hr which is closer to $10 by today's standards, and got tips, it was a sweet deal, my most favorite job I ever had.

On Baxter? Used to hit that place up pretty regularly when I was in Lipscomb.

In 99 we didn't even have that at Dominos. We had a giant map on the wall and you had to figure it out. I had a cell phone, but they still weren't that common, a lot of drivers had to use a pay phone when lost.
I was paid $5.25 an hour, $.50 a run then tips. Came out to be around 15/hr which was decent in 1999 for an 18 year old.

Oddly pay hasn't increased. It's odd we say "$5 an hour today which is $10 now" while totally acknowledging that pay hasn't gone up.

No, Cobb County. Pizza delivery in Athens in the 90's was too dangerous and murdery.

When I slung pizzas, we got $1.25 of the $3.00 fee plus whatever tip we got and ~$.25 per mile. It was for when we had to deliver to non-tippers.
