When I read your posts I really think about my relationship with my dad and it makes me think about what I would do to comfort him even tho we have. Gone thru so many ups and downs.

For women, children

For men, children (if unexpected/bastard), drugs otherwise

I know so many women who absolutely ruined every single major future opportunity the moment they got pregnant. The drive is completely gone. Total life ruiner.

Being in a relationship with a bad partner can be devastating, if you aren't strong enough to get out. It's affecting my family, wife's brother had 2 kids with this girl, both are complete idiots, not the kids the adults. Now my in- laws, both who are close to 60 and getting ready to retire, are trying to adopt two under 5 year olds. All because the parents are terrible for each other and can't take care of their responsibilities.

My parents did a lot for me growing up and even just a few years back when I was going through the issues I mentioned earlier. I feel like helping them right now is the least I can do. They have encouraged me to move if I want to but I know that's just how they are because they always want what is best for me. I just play it off as if I am just thinking out loud so they don't feel like they are holding me back, which they aren't, but I would feel guilty not being here to help when they need me.

My pops worked a lot to make sure we had it better than he did growing up and he only recently retired because of the cancer. I begged him to do so earlier but he wouldn't. I want to stay and help him around his place so he can hopefully enjoy a few years of relaxation for when/if the cancer comes back more aggressive next time. He is currently in remission and doing pretty good so he has had about 3 months of being able to do just that. Now we just need some better weather so I can take him fishing.

SlowFlow

I meet with Orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, pain mgmnt physicians weekly and pretty sure I know this Dr. you speak of. Matter of fact, I had a medical conference scheduled with him the same day the Feds raided his office in LC. DEA and FBI agents advised me there would be no meeting and best if I drive back to Lafayette.

Probably met with him a dozen times before "the bust" occurred. Last I heard he was practicing in TX since his LA medical license was revoked.

Back to the thread topic .... I concur addiction of any type ruin your career or family. Get caught with child pornography and sending lewd videos to an under cover agent and your life is officially done as you once knew it.

Stout, don't know you from Adam as prayers and support being sent up for your father.

My pop died of a brain cancer last summer and his final stages things went so fast I didn't have time to go see him. Not until the funeral. I really regret not getting down there earlier.

It was really a great get together. My pop and weren't that close but I got to meet his best friends from HS and learned some things about him I never knew. He was one of the first to get a car, was quite the rebel and was voted "best physique" in his SR year

Church was packed for his funeral though he didn't want one. Learned more about him in passing than I did in life

Drugs
Unexpected Pregnancy
Death of a Loved One

In no different order as different people react in different degrees to these situations.

The only people who can't handle an unexpected pregnancy are immature people. I've personally seen that happen twice.

My vote is for drugs and alcohol. You can completely ruin your and your family's lives getting caught up in that. So many people get addicted to pills, it's ridiculous

A drug addiction

This is the answer. My ex-wife's drug addiction derailed my career, my marriage, and put me in tons of debt.

Marrying the wrong person. Frequently initiated by accidental pregnancy.

Everything is fixable. Just ask the journalist who interviewed survivors of attempted suicide jumps off Golden Gate Bridge. During the 4 seconds it takes to get from bridge to water they realized they had made a mistake and the only that wasn't fixable was jumping off the bridge.
