What is "rock bottom"?

For me it was when my 12 year old called my sister to come pick her up because I was so fricked up that it scared her. Quit cold turkey the next day and been sober ever since. 8 years and 7 months now.

I employed a guy, briefly, who owned a very successful mortgage business. He could not over come his addiction of drugs and alcohol. He lost his business, family, and house. I had to let him go after just a few weeks because of the same issues. It was sad to see a 50 year old man beg for his job, but I couldn’t deal with the issues:

I have many more stories.

This guy I'm talking about is all whacked out. He is sort of fixated on skipping all the rehab shite people are suggesting and instead going to Costa Rica to do ayuhuasca. Where he got that idea I really don't know.

Alcoholism is a real problem that people don’t take serious and ultimately breaks up families and ruins lives. Typically the alcoholic doesn’t “think” they have a problem, and continues to spiral downward. In my opinion and experience, this individual has hit rock bottom, but unfortunately it will drive him to drink more and ultimately will lose his life due to this disease. He could still reach out, get help, and turn his life around... but again, that hasn’t happened a whole lot in my experience. I see these individuals drinking themselves LITERALLY to death. Super sad

Rock bottom is proportional to your upbringing and what you can rationalize as realistic. It’s different for everyone based on good experiences of friends/family and how much that life is no longer attainable.

Every junkie goes to bed or passes out and wakes up in the morning thinking, with regret, of the life they really want. It’s when that thought seems so forgone it’s not attainable anymore is rock bottom.

There is no well defined parameters of ‘rock bottom’, but he’ll know when he gets there.

After the last rehab I was discharged. Never really talked to friends afterwards and with some help and trust moved away.

It’s subjective to most of us but OweO states that specific to his experience it is pleasuring men with his mouth.

Its different for different people. Mine kept changing, I suppose it would have been when I couldn't take care of myself. Never got there, but definitely accepted less than I normally would have. You get used to compromises after a while and slowly sell out.
