I was doing 80 between Pensacola and I-75, couple weeks ago, and people were passing me like I was doing 40…

70-75 in rural areas, 65 in urban

TRAFFIC ALERT: Accident on I-10 W on the MS River Bridge has parts of at least 2 lanes blocked. Delays minimal at this time but likely to build. Also seem to have rubbernecking delays on I-10 E on the bridge.

Depends on the place/area.
I 90 west of La Crosse should be 110mph all the way to the Rockies.

Other than sharp turns like on I-10 in Lake Charles, I don't see why speed limits on the interstate system is necessary.

In Oklahoma we’re up to 80 mph on rural interstates and turnpikes. You would think that would get everyone to their destinations with plenty of time to spare.
But they blow by me going what must be 95-100 mph consistently. I can’t figure out why people don’t leave on time, or early enough, to get where they are going. My wife assures some people just like to haul arse all the time.
I don’t get it

I’m at 75 +/- a few mph almost all the time.

Design speed of the interstate is 120 mph. Seems like a good starting point. Heavy fines for those blocking left lane.

Depends. But most straight, rural, and flat interstates can easily get up to 85 mph during the day; 80 at night. Maybe more if the pavement and lighting is good.

Rural straightish interstates should be a minimum of 85. But I agree with another poster - the majority of non-urban interstates are designed for extremely high speed and should be so. People ignore the limit because the limit is BS and everyone knows it.
This is an area we should be more like Germany. Very fast speeds BUT the limits that are in place are strictly enforced(many through the exact type of timed intervals you mention). AND, this is the key, driver training is intense, pretty expensive, and doing stupid stuff, speeding, and driving distracted will cost you you license very quickly.

I'm fine with 70.
Drove all over Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming last Summer and that 80mph scared the Bejeezus out of me. Kids and GF laughed at me for going 74 in an 80 every time.

This reminds of a time I was traveling on the Florida turnpike in south Florida and I kept bumping up the cruise control until I was going 87 and I was still one of the slowest cars on the road. Those guys were letting it roll that day
