Hitler loved them.. Well, he considered them to be allies. He even called them "the real supremist".

What happened to Europe is a punishment for the holocaust. They will never be united again in that way, perhaps for good reason.

In your mind, what year does this genocide begin? The Vikings were more of a concern for Europe during this age. Wouldn’t that make more sense to focus on?

Maybe Islam took root where it did because it was better suited for those people. If you get a satellite image of the globe, and draw a border around all the islamic areas, you’ll see that they don’t occupy many of the lush green areas. It’s mostly dry, barren places with occasional oases.

The rest of Europe does not exist in 636 it really doesn't. You have Franks fighting with Visgoths and Saxon fighting Britons , for example in the West. Western Europe at that time was a mess and nominally Christian. Plus there is the problem of Eastern migration. The Byzantines were dealing with the Avars and the Bulgars in the Balkans as well as trying to deal with the Arabs on their Southern and Eastern frontiers. The Balkans was where the best troops of the empire came from. If you lived south of the Danube, you had been Roman for close to 700 years. There was a lot of displacement beginning in the 400's.

By the late 500's (Justinian dies in 565) Constantinople is the big city in Europe. Justinian and Belasarius had retaken Italy and the Dalmatian coast and the Islands of the Med and even Southern Spain. Byzantium WAS Europe for all intents and purposes.

After Justinian, the empire is involved in what could be described as a squeeze play. Persians in the East, Avars, Bulgars, Sclaveni(Slavs) to the north as well as Lombards further West as you get closer to Italy and disarray in Gaul, Britain and Northern Iberia. Romans were so preoccupied that they don't see the Arabs coming.....until it is too late.

The Venetians fricked the Byzantines over 100 years before the fall of Constantinople. There was a crusade that really never happened. The emperor promised to help bankroll it and when he did not the Venetians began sacking Thessaloniki, then moved up and went on a multi-day slaughter in Constantinople. Plus by 1400 people in the Balkans were tired of the Greek's shite. They were always playing a game of intrigue, their source of wealth has dried up.....the Turks had the Zagros Mts in the Northeast of Anatolia where the gold was and just about all of Anatolia except for some coastal enclaves as well as Egypt. The Turks/Muslims now also controlled the food.

Also the Turks in a big FU after the fiasco with the Venetians cross over into Europe and set up their capital at Adrianople some 50 or so miles.....WEST of Constantinople. The Byzantine empire was dead long before Mehmet came in.

Read about what Mehmet did leading up to the Fall of Constantinople in terms of preparing and setting up. He wasn't playing by this time....and I doubt a Venetian fleet would have changed the outcome.

When you think about it, Rome had a really good run as far as empires go. For 700 years they controlled the Mediterranean and it's not until 400 years after that , that the real free fall begins after Manzikert in 1071
