No Lie - Good friend of mine had one while at LSU, it was stolen and then recovered south of San Antonio, Tx headed south.
Piece of shite overheated, he went and got it and drove it around Baton rouge for 4 more years.

I can only guess that most are in car museums.

I don't believe Escorts have been made in many years. All the older ones are gone due to end of life.

I had one, did alright, but I can't imagine anybody wanting a used one.
and 40 years from now is any of the plastic shite they make now going to be "classic"?

I had a wagon years ago that was a pretty decent car, even kept it as a beater for a while then gave it to a place that refurbs cars for homeless vets.
In a related note: These 90's cherokees are all over the place, and some of them honestly look good when they're fixed up.

I had a 1986 Mercury Lynx. My first new car. $6084, standard, no air.

Only Mazda sells a truck for just $5795 sakes alive.
Remember that commercial from the 1980's.
My friend had one with the wankle rotary engine in it. He still uses it as a 4x4 junker to run around in the California deserts.
Wives' Ford Escort hatch back cost under $10k new loaded with sports package and AC.
Back in the day I got a Ford Ranger X-Cab loaded, two tone paint job Black and Grey, 4x4 decked out with wench & roll bar, chrome bumpers and Chrome Grill. That little truck for the day was a bad little truck to run in the desert. I paid under $15,000 for it new off the lot in California.

The Henry Ford Museum outside of Detroit has an exhibit of the history of the automobile. It was pretty cool to see a 1973 Honda Civic in pristine condition.

OP makes an interesting point.
Guess that Ford wasn't making a very durable car back then.

Wife had one of these in college...worked great. Had a stick...put a lot of miles on it. Front wheel drive was decent in snow.
Yeah no shite OT people..it was an economy car. Except for VW's, nobody gives a shite about restoring an economy car.
I remember riding around in Baton Rouge traffic as a passenger in a Yugo...omg...ever rode in one of those? Cardboard for door panels. That was an economy car...don't see any of those on the road either.

I went there for work, industrial Mexico, back in the mid 90's. Stayed on the border and drove across to work about two weeks. I have never seen so many Volkswagen Scirocco's and Rabbits in my life. All 20 years old and smoking
