When most states banned it in bars that serve food, it marked the end of a trashy era

The decline of smoking coincided with the rise of obesity in this country, i know a lot of old smokers but very few old fat people.

Isn't smoking totally banned on most college campuses in Louisiana now?

I remember when I was in college in early 2000's, smoking was still allowed in the student union .

Go in front of Middleton and you'll see a bunch of jackasses sitting around smoking "protecting their rights"

I don't mind if someone smokes if I can avoid them. I do mind when they do it right by the entrances of buildings, restaurants, or where the general public might roam. If I walked though a designated area and complained, I'd be an a-hole for sure, but not when it's as the only exit available.

Price and vaping. Then of course there is the whole health thing, but for me..it was price and the vape.

Ecigs and vaping have been around for ten years or so now, long term effects should begin to show soon, if there are any. How great would it be if there aren't any?

There is no denying the negative impact from smoking but, my grandfather started smoking in WW2 and passed away at 98. He smoked Lucky Strike non filters. He swore up and down that it wasn't the tobacco killing people. It was when they added the chemicals and filters that people started dying. Genetics and diet plays a huge role as well.

Wrong! I don't know the numbers, but I bet more poor and uneducated people smoke than people with more income and better educated.

To answer the OP.. I think it is a number of things.
- The restrictions put on tobacco companies in terms of where they can market their products.

- Anti- Smoking campaigns.

- Health statistics.

- More and more places banning smoking.

I'd say a significant contributor is the lack of smoking in the modern military. Most in the military smoked back in the day but those people are either dead or quitting now. My dad was in the army and for years afterward he smoked 2-3 packs a day because it was still accepted in the workplace.

It all probably traces back to understanding more about its effects though.
