Asteroid impact

If anything on Earth could end all life, it would have. An external variable would be the main cause of something the Earth couldn't handle.

When the network of satellites designed to control the global climate starts to attack Earth, it's a race against the clock for its creator to uncover the real threat before a worldwide Geostorm wipes out everything and everyone.

I believe it’s basically a fact barring a black hole, one of our neighbors going supernova, or gamma ray burst taking our planet out first.

People are saying asteroid but we have so much technology now that people would know ahead of time and they would know the impact zones so I imagine smart, super rich people will live in bunkers for a while. 90% of the population would die but I don’t think all life, human or animal, would extinguish. I know Stephen Hawking said it was the biggest threat to mankind and I can see it. But by the time something like that comes about, technology will increase further. NASA continues to develop and our celestial body tracking will improve. I just don’t see a scenario where one completely wipes out all life.

I actually think a solar flare could be killer but there are groups of tribes that live without technology that it wouldn’t wipe us out completely but it would do as much damage as an asteroid as far as depleting population. Think about how many people are dependent on electricity. People need medicine which is mostly kept cool by electricity. Food supplies. Cars. Surgeries. Heating and Cooling. So many things.

Nuclear War would do it to major populated areas but not all of the world would be hit by nuclear war. Life would go on in places in Africa and Madagascar and Australia, New Zealand.

Honestly AI is the most likely to me. But people confuse Artificial Intelligence with Artificial Sentience. Most AI today isn’t able to do what movies show it can do because it hasn’t reached sentience. AS is and would be able to think for itself. AI is possible but some still question whether AS is possible. If it is, it would be highly dangerous to humanity and all life, really. Robots don’t need plants, animals or even water.

Gamma ray burst. It's happen here before. A known species killer.

The few life forms that would survive would have to rebulid and who knows what emerges from that goo.

100% sure in 5 billion years, give or take a few 100 thousand years, the sun will end all life that remains on earth. I don't think nothing else will completely end all life on earth unless we get hit by a big asteroid.

I don’t see why a solar flare would mean several billions of people all die. It would cause the complete collapse of society. A lot of people would die initially and in the chaos that would last for a long time, but there would still quite a few survivors. It’s not a zombie apocalypse.

And I don’t just mean some tribes. Some people know how to survive while others will learn how to adapt. Even if 90% of people die in this new dark age, 10% of people surviving is still a lot of people. I think society could rebuild itself after a long period of time.

It’s not like a gamma burst that would kill everyone instantly. There’s no chance of hiding from or surviving that.

You're betting it's 10x more likely than literally any other extinction event? You think humans are going to willingly and knowingly choose to end all human life? That's crazy, as I think nuclear war is the LEAST likely option.

My bet is on something astronomical, like a large asteroid impact (which has happened numerous times to the earth, whereas full blown nuclear war has never happened) or a solar flare.

Chances are, there's an asteroid somewhere in space that's headed on a crash course with earth as we speak.

The United Tstaes has used nuclear bombs twice, and we have been relatively close to full on nuclear war with Russia at least 5 times. Google Stanislav Petrov.

There have been two world wars last century. Odds are we will see nuclear crossfire again before we see tens of millions of people die in open war.
