Many areas of California is fairly reasonable cost to live. The further from the coast the more reasonable all things considered.

The friends I have that have moved from Calif to Texas were all successful and republican.
Didn't like the taxes in Calif nor the liberal govt and had the ability to work from where ever they wanted so they packed up and left.

Not really, based on 15 years of living in Texas. The Texas legislature has shown many times, if a district is close to going democrat, they have no problem redrawing the lines to make sure it stays republican.
I haven't seen any particular evidence that these Californians are turning the dial democrat. My town of Round Rock in Williamson County has been one of the epicenters of California relocation. This county is as republican as it has ever been. Most of the Californians I know in my neighborhood are middle class family people who have fallen in line with the areas political leanings.
Maybe people tend to complain less when you have good schools, good quality of life, safe streets, and lots of economic activity.

I dont think the article is saying that some productive people didn't leave CA as well. It's just that the larger percentage of people leaving are typically lower middle or below.
Taxation can be a deciding factor for upper income people, but its not the same as just not being able to have reasonable living without spending everything. The exodus from CA is definitely not your Silicon Valley crowd per se.

I wish they would stay away. They're driving up the cost of homes in the hill country and are supporting the same policies that caused them to leave California.
