What do you do when you’re ready for the check yet the waitress never comes by?

Got to the point I had to get another waitress to get the check and doggy bag my wife and I’s leftovers. They were moderately full, was definitely not bedlam. I waited 15 minutes from when we decided we were ready to go until we got it.

Give the universal “check please” sign and a server magically appears.

Did it twice and they didn’t stop. Needs to be a point where if no one comes, you can leave. People have shite to do.

The problem used to be at a restaurant where they’d bring the check when you’re only half way done eating with the obnoxious “when you’re ready.” Now it’s the complete opposite

Waitress is no doubt in the back smoking and playing on her phone.

Start a thread on the OT to clarify just how much I should tip.

Assuming she was prompt with the check and doggie bag, how much, in dollars were you going to tip, what was the pre-tax bill. AND how much did you actually tip?

I turn my drink glass upside down and push it towards the edge.

This happened to me asked our waitress once, waited 15 min. Then asked another one when ours didn’t come back. After 10 more minutes we left. Place wasn’t very busy either. Even looked for a manager and they were no where in sight.

Bill was ~45. I usually do 15-20%, depending on how good the service was. When a waitress either ignores the table, rolls their eyes, talks with a disrespectful tone, etc. they get nothing. And please, spare me the "kitchen can cause problems," "they are essentially paying for your meal," etc. If you want a stable income, work at McDonalds. I'm not tipping 15-20% by default.

Just ask another server for the check. Not a big deal.

Thanks. Sounds reasonable to me. Some ingrates tip like 50¢.- $1 per person so their tipping paradigm is flawed.

Things like this used to bother me but my wife has taught me it isn't that important.

Seriously, this is the top reason I don't like to eat out. When I'm done, I'm ready to leave. I can't stand waiting around for the waiter to finally swing back by and ask if we need anything else, when everyone is just sitting there twiddling their thumbs.

Do we need a restaurant board to handle these and the tipping threads?
