I was referring to the amount of wealth in the city. Sweeping generalization like LA is full of rich people or NYC is full of rich people as well. Miami is also huge and has a ton of ghettos.

Wow. Lots of low expectations around here. In my profession we're talking at least $500k.

Well, it's on the internet so it must be true

What do you do for a living and where, RedRifle? How many years of experience do you have?

Here is a link to IRS return data from 2008 for each zip code. Just replace the 01234 in the link with your zip and you can see about how many upper middle class or upper class OT ballers live in your area.

LINK

For the record, my zip had just under 100 OT ballers with an AGI of over 200K - but not me.

Cool link

My parents' zipcode had a couple hundred ballers in it, most of those are probably due sharing a zipcode with the Diversion Canal developments.

Why do people not believe this? I don't think a lot of people realize just what kind of money is out there to be made. My wife and I made that at thirty and we are in our fifties now and it's really not hard. We own our own business and have invested well and think about what we are doing and going to do with our money and for the most part have conservative investments. Find a good field, work hard and make a good living.

However class is not defined by money.

it says it doesn't work, but all you have to do is type the zipcode into a blank on the left of the screen and it works.

Well there is a big difference between 150k gross vs net. I would think net at that age is pretty rare. Gross wouldn't be that uncommon.

So median income in my zip is $112k. What would you consider "Upper" for this area? I wonder bc I'm either totally disconnected or some people in this thread are much more thrifty than I.

What category is the 112K? I believe it is per return.

70809 zip code in b.r has avg income/household as $59.6K.

Without absorbent school loans and debt, I'd say household income ~100K is middle class(not upper middle).

Thats about an RN + Teacher combined salary.

No . I just worded that wrong. I guess I was thinking that with regular salaries we don't quite reach that, but with bonuses and stock gains we will clear that hurdle . It's not unheard of for two people with college degrees to combine for that much. Not saying it happens all the time, but it happens. But like I said, my wife got her undergrad and MBA all on student loans, so all of her salary goes to knocking out that debt right now. I do not feel like we're upper middle class.

No it isn't . If you look at median income by education level, it should not be surprising that a household composed of individuals that both went to college shows significantly more income than the nationwide household income median.

Why should you compare yourself against slapdicks that never graduated high school when assessing your income against the national median? Compare apples to apples.

Maybe some people do this to feel better about their own income underperformance?

My household income is 150k and I feel like I am lower middle class.
