Instead of paying $150 for Orkin to provide a one time treatment, I'd like to see if I can purchase it myself. I know the bug spray they use around the house is basically the same as Home Defense but they use a frickload of it.

Any clue what their using for mosquitoes and gnats and if I can buy it myself?

I've heard people using Talstar. Its more of a general pesticide so there may be something better for skeeters.

Might try posting this on the OB. Those guys seem to know their poisons.

I've had my yard treated for mosquitoes for a couple f years now. I think it helps. It's really hard to tell. At one time they told me they were using a Chrysanthemum oil extract.

While each company likely has a unique formula, the most common ingredients in professional-grade pesticides are pyrethroids and pyrethrins. Piperonyl butoxide and hydramethylnon are the next most common ingredients.

Chlorpyrifos, diazinon and other organophosphates were once very common, but have become nearly obsolete since the Environmental Protection Agency restricted the use of these toxic ingredients starting in 2001.

They use talstar cause it's cheap. You should use suspend polyzone cause it's better.

The gnats have been so bad lately I can barely be outside for more than five minutes.

Duet Adultcide and Naled is what is used in the planes and by most municipalities. I don't think a homeowner can purchase and spray. This is what city of BR sprays, the stuff works way better than other DIY stuff.

For DIY I'd buy Hi-yield 38 and mix max application dose in a pump sprayer, then spray in the finest mist you can in the hottest part of the day in all of your bushes\landscaping where the mosquitos hide during the day.

Permethrin is what I use. You can tell where you stop spraying. There will be NO skeeters where you spray.

Go to walmart and get product that with Spectracide Malathion concentrate. Follow directions. Spray everything that has a base in the yard such as trees, buildings, patios, etc. Keep anything from holding water within 30 or 40 feet of your house. Mosquitoes must have puddles of water to reproduce. You won't worry about Mosquitoes for a while after a few days.

This has worked well every season I have done it. My neighbors always have tons of mosquitoes and I don't.

I use Testar 4 times a year. 2 weeks apart in the spring and 2 weeks apart in the late summer. I have minimal mosquito's as opposed to previously, before discovering Telstar, having s huge problem.

It's legit. It also takes care of roaches, spiders etc.... it's been great.

I get BR mosquito abatement to come out every Friday. I get my neighbors next to me to call as well and they hit up all our houses every Friday for the weekend.

And it's already paid for by my taxes
