This is why I’m trying to have a lot of kids. At least 1 should be able to take care of me.

Retirement is an antiquated notion. Inflation will kill it.

I think people work as long as they can, sell everything they can, buy something like a van, go homeless, use SS.

If you're homeless you can make it work. I've been homeless. When there's no rent payment the bills go down quite a bit. Loneliness is the worst part unless you decide to be on the street in LA or San Fran, IMO.

You won't eat good food or much of it, but you might find it more important to get a solar powered radio, so you can at least hear other people, music etc every day. I used to wake up waiting for Rush (west coast time) to come on and at night listen to Dave Ramsey.

As mentioned in another post, Central America (Belize, CR, et al) is popular, as is Asia- Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines, Malaysia .. pretty much any Asian country except Singapore & Japan (which are both NYC/Paris-level expensive)- you’ll be able to stretch ur US dollars 5-10 times further than in America … or, i guess you could live like a pauper in a mobile home in Arkansas or something , barely scrapping by and eating dog food.. to me, it’s a no-brainer .

You might not eat dog food but will not live like a king in any of those places on 1500 a month.

Have y’all seen the price of dog and cat food? Rice and beans is cheaper
When I was in college I had a neighbor that only ate cat food. The landlord found out then her caretakers found out. She was put into a home shortly after

We are all gonna find out when GenX hits retirement age and 60-75%can't afford to retire. All of this lavish spending we are seeing for social media cred right now instead of saving for the future is going to bite a lot of people HARD

Not only that, but there are a lot of people who aren’t contributing to social security, so they won’t even have that cushion when they stop working.. They, and their advocates in Congress, will be looking with envy at your retirement accounts.

Where the interstate exit says left or right, go straight instead and forge your own road.

Bout 1/4 mile up you’ll see a glowing red lantern pinned to a sinister looking shack.

Don’t knock. Stroll right in and head downstairs towards dungeon. It’s about 3,000 toebites downward towards the center of the “soul”

FFS the old dog and cat food yarn? That shite costs as much as people food.

Food stamps, SS and Medicare is what they do.

The premise of this thread is what to do if one doesnt have enough money to fund retirement .. if that is the case, then (speaking of standards)- your $1500 per month , or $2300 per month SS check will give you a MUCH higher standard of living in many countries than anywhere in America…. Now, Im sure there are plenty of people here who think that their retirement is secure, and that nothing could possibly go wrong.. but trust me, if you happen to have a divorce (or two) or maybe you have a business fail (or two)- you might find urself at 65 or 70 yrs old trying to live on Social Security and whatever meager savings or investments you *might* have left… also, pension programs can, and do, go bankrupt and collapse.. as can social security , of course .. just keep an open mind, if anything goes wrong with your planned cushy retirement .

Move into Medicaid facilities where they get stolen from, beat on, and otherwise traumatized daily by the cognitively deficient workers.
