I'm not too sure what you mean by this.

Nashville is pretty overrated to me. A lot of the native's bitch and moan about the Californians and Yankees taking over, that said, I can't imagine living (or even visiting) that place 10 or so years ago. The only good and interesting things about the city are all new spots started by transplants.

ETA: And there is very little good about the lower Broadway area.

Really? First off, it was better ten years ago. And why can't you imagine living here? Tons of stuff to do, Nhl,Nfl, great minor league park, world class symphony, countless famous music venues, tons of great food, history and music, literally surrounded by lakes and outdoor activities. And lol at thinking all those were started by transplants

I don't know? It seems like all the cool or good things (restaurants, bars, even neighborhoods) are all new - like within the past couple of years. Nashville seems like it would have been pretty boring 10, 15+ years ago in my opinion.

Were you ever here ten years ago? It was amazing here. I moved from Charleston to Nashville in 2007 and it blew my mind how much there was to do in Nashville. If anything Nashville has suffered the same fate of Charleston. It’s lost it’s soul. Hotels and condos taking the place of everything. Add in the new country music douchebags buying up all the bars and turning them into generic shite holes..

Possible positive? New Sounds stadium and new amphitheater.

Nope. I'm not sure how, but I'll take your word for it. It seems like it would offer little to do. In my experience, the interesting parts about Nashville are all in the gentrified areas. All of the original breweries restaurants, cocktail bars are popping up in these areas like East, Wedgewood, and Nations. I'm not even mentioning the Gulch, 12 South, and other popular shopping districts that tourists love (they aren't for me, but they attract a ton).

That can be said for both. However, Nashville takes it up another level imo by its failure to add anything original. As you mentioned, downtown is essentially ruined. It has almost no diversity. Every bar is "Cotton Eyed Joes", "Rustic Fiddle", or "________ (insert random douchebag pop "country" artists' Honkey Tonk."

However, Nashville also "relocates" a ton of restaurants and bars all over town (Red Door, Broadway Brew House, Hattie B's, Tailgate Brewery, Martins BBQ, Edley's BBQ, Neighbors, Corner Pub). They just stick various locations "east", "west", etc at the end. Hell, last time I was in town, we ate at a different "5 Points pizza". Correct me if I am wrong, 5 points is a particular part of town/neighborhood in the East Side, no?

Nice update. Travel board is 90% lame as frick anyways, same old Q&As. An OT Nashville Live Thread would be pretty awesome if you can give us daily or hourly updates (assuming you are there to eat, drink, and bang some fat chicks).

We are counting on you to bring the entertainment this week.

Same could be said for Kickin Chicken, Taco Boy..Sticky Fingers.

I do agree with you on a lot of that. The original days are over unless you live here and know where to go. Unfortunately downtown and surrounding areas only cater to visitors. We didn’t really have this issue a decade ago. I got out while I could. We built a house near Center Hill way out in the country. I only go downtown now for concerts.

Damn, I miss Kickin Chicken.

Nashvillian here...

If you get a chance and want a unique setting, check out the Patterson House. It’s a speak easy with good drinks and an interesting food selection.

For lunch or dinner, try Peg Leg’s. The owner is a local competition BBQ guy who knows what’s up...his peg leg adds to the ambiance.

If you want hot chicken, skip the pretenders and go straight to the original. Prince’s Hot Chicken. Just go during the day and you’ll be straight.

For talent, check out the Gulch. Try to catch a show at The Station Inn.

If you like pool, Buffalo Billiards is good, as is the Flying Saucer.

I apologize if any of these places are out of business.

No doubt. I just notice it more in Nashville - presumptively because it's much bigger. I'm not disagreeing with you in that Chucktown has lost a lot of its charm though.
