Looking at trying to get on somewhere lie CF. What qualifications do I need. Do I need to pass a physical or some other type test?

what do you want to do, just work in a plant like a contractor or you want to be a person hired by the plant

one is easy, the other you have to do things.

okay, I will tell you what the "sure fire" way to get in, but you need a degree.
It's not glamorous, takes a couple years, but it's the path of near no resistance.

Step 1: Fire watch.

It's an ugly woman's job. Pays $12/hour...but I've heard upwards of $21. You should be able to get on with turner or someone by grabbing your OSHA/TWIC and taking a Fire Watch online course and getting a Cert.

quote:

Fire Watch

Description: Every year, many workplace fires occur as a result of hot work – cutting, welding and other work that generates heat and sparks – being done without an adequate fire watch in place. Most – if not all – hot work incidents are completely preventable. A fire watch, conducted properly, is one of the most important ways to keep workers safe during hot work and prevent damage and destruction to property. This course covers the role and responsibilities of the fire watcher.

Objectives: •Where hot work is – and is not – permitted •The safety precautions needed to prepare an area for hot work •The role and responsibilities of a fire watcher •Responsibilities of other individuals involved in hot work •What emergency procedures need to be in place for hot work

Duration: 32 min

Language: English

Price: $21.00

Now you start at $shite/hour, and you probably will stay there for a bit. But you'll pass up Twanda, Keisha, and Beronika in no time flat.

All you need is 1 year of this shite. Then you can apply for your ASP Associate Safety Professional Cert

quote:

ASP Candidates:

Will have a minimum of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree in any field or an Associate’s in safety, health, or the environment, or a closely related field
Will have 1-year of safety experience where safety is at least 50%, preventative, professional level with breadth and depth of safety duties
Must pass the ASP examination.

During this one year, you take a bunch of online safety courses. They are easy and cheap, confined space, fall prevention, struck by, caught in, and a few others

Once you have your ASP and these other certs.....you have a job with Turner or the EH&S dept at a plant making >$60k

The trouble is to get into safety you have to know someone to get experience, the easy way around that is to go with the shite job that's safety related to get it yourself.

But once you have your ASP you are good, 3 years later, you get your CSP and you are 6 figures.

Did you have three kids by 20? Do you drive a shitty truck that has tires worth more than the body? Do you have a girlfriend who has at least three tattoos and a snaggletooth? If so, you're hired. Meet me tomorrow at Golden Corral. I'll sign you up.
