It's more than just a tummy ache. Your wife has an autoimmune disease where her body attacks itself when she ingests gluten. The villi in the small intestine get decimated. SO all kinds of vitamin deficiencies will lead to MS, Lupus, Hashimoto's and/or cancer. Autoimmune is serious business.

It's a double-edged sword. The fakers have also made it more popular and now we have waaaaayy more GF prodcuts (not that you should be eating it as most of it is crap), but compared to 10, even 5 years ago it is much easier to have celiac disease.

Food is supposed to make you feel good, after all it is fuel for the body. If you eat something and your stomach hurts and you get the hershey squirts, you probably shouldn't be eating it.

My wife has celiac disease and is therefore gluten free.

It's actually quite easy. They basically make everything with a gluten free option now.

It's called crumbs. Also you should educate yourself on what happens when a person with an autoimmune disease, in this case celiac disease, consumes even trace amounts of gluten. Migraines, stomach pain, diarrhea, lethargy, brain fog, eczema, vitamin deficiencies. Trust me it's not fun at all.

And that's pretty messed up that you would even entertain the idea of giving someone with celiac gluten without their knowledge.

One of my wife's friends did one of the fad diets that included a lot of protein bars made with soy. She was then diagnosed with breast cancer (around the age of 30) and was informed that the over consumption of soy likely contributed to getting breast cancer so young.

I have no idea if that was really the cause but I try to limit myself to only a couple of protein bars per week just in case.

one of the kids in my sons grade has a peanut allergy. everywhere he goes mom has instructed teachers and coaches that he can't be around peanuts. so football coaches send out a note that the entire football team can't have granola bars or trail mix or anything with nuts for pre or post practice/game snacks/meals...seriously! he can't even have them in the air around him. The shite people come up with

My wife is a real celiac, like can't process gluten at all. It's annoying for 2 reason

1. She can't digest it at all, so if I'm making a sandwich and touch bread and then accidentally touch her sandwich she will get sick. If I drink a beer and kiss her she will get sick. If a restaurant cooks her food on a grill or pot that had something with gluten in it before washing she will get sick.

2. All these fake gluten free people make it worse for her since half the restaurants or people she tells about it think she's just on some fad of the month lame diet and don't take the precautions necessary and/or judge her or try and pressure her to eat/drink gluten

I know one real deal Celiac person, and she's generally the same. She's had to go in for monthly treatments since she was a teenager and all sorts of annoying crap. She hates the movement for what it's done to the people who really need it.

Funny/sad thing is when, every once in a while, she'll get drunk and say "F it" and shovel a pizza or tacos or something. The next day is mind-numbingly bad for her.

Soy allergy is pretty common, but I've never seen an extreme one.

Some meat heads avoid it because it produces (or has) estrogen in it.

I honestly did not know this. Gracias

The tough thing about Celiac too is that the more time they go without it, the worse it is when they do eat it.

My wife found out she was a true celiac 10 years ago and hasn't had gluten (other than accidentally) since
