I was accepted to UCLA, Cal-Berkeley, Tulane, and Duke at the time but decided to stay closer to home. Yeah things would probably be different but I really can't see myself as a Californian the way that state is going now.

I almost attended the US Naval Academy in Annapolis

I was 17 and pussed out of the process. Was going to go play football there. Chose to stay in Louisiana like a dumbass, and ended up joining the military a year later anyway.

Attended a university in New Haven, Connecticut instead.

Really wanted to go to University of Phoenix, but didn't have the grades. Ended up at Auburn.

Up until my junior year of high school my plan was to go to University of Arizona.

Junior year my aunt who lived in Monroe suggested I come visit LSU so I could go to school close to family. I ended up loving it and never even applied elsewhere.

My life would definitely be different if I had ended up there. For one I wouldn't be living in BR now, don't know if I would have ended up staying in Tucson after graduation or moved home/elsewhere.

Wake Forest. I loved Winston Salem but I had a full ride to the Honors College at the University of South Carolina and I had grown up a die-hard Gamecock fan.

Got scholarship offers for soccer and at 2 private schools, Lehigh and Lenoir Rhyne. They were half tuition, which was still way more than an in state public school. My parents footed the bill for in state, but couldn’t afford out of state/private.

I was accepted to multiple law schools. I really considered Pepperdine, but cost was a big factor again. It is a beautiful campus.

App State offered to comp me full in-state tuition and a bunch of other scholarships but I was just outside the reciprocity boundary and they wouldn't budge on OOS. Ended up banking about 5k per semester at a shitty in-state school instead.

It's a damn shame too because I'm sure I would have had a blast in Boone and not ended up transferring halfway through like I did with my second choice.

UT-Austin. Round Up almost convinced me but in the end it was too big so went to W&L.

That part of Western NC is absolutely beautiful, LR's campus included.

It's a decent school (probably on par with Tulane) and the type of program obviously matters, but the people there are insufferable, and it's generally very expensive. Plus he is presumably in the prime of his life, and living in Dallas on its face pales in comparison to living in a place like Boulder. Dallas is great for finding a job, but I would hold off on that if I had the luxury to do so.
