What can we do about the Siegen - I10 - Reiger - Marketplace intersections?

It's annoying as hell travelling through that. Traffic circles? Reverse lanes? What? Every time I pass through there I think to myself there must be a better way to direct all this flow.

no left turns to or from I-10
make it like New Orleans where you have to turn right, get over then U later to head in the other direction.
no left turns means no need for red lights there
no red lights means no congestion and making a U will be no problem as people
people can get into the marketplace by taking frontage road near church, or they can U from there going under siegan.

That sounds like it would make traffic far worse.

I actually don't think it's that bad considering all the traffic there.

There's a light at the Marketplace, then a light at the southbound exit, then a light at the northbound exit, then a light at Reiger Rd. It's ridiculous.

You probably need a high capacity single point urban interchange (SPUI) there. The only real answer though is more options. It would also be really nice to extend the frontage roads to and from Highland.
Another problem on Siegen are the shopping centers. They generate a lot of traffic in close proximity to the interchange. That really bogs everything down. That and there just isn't enough roadway capacity to provide sufficient efficiency.

name the action that would be worse, remember siegan will be No stopping, free flow.
east on I-10 to siegan...merge, no red, head south on siegan or go into marketplace
south on siegan to go east on I-10....go into market place loop, enter 1-10 east on northbound side of seigan
west on 1-10 to siegan......merge north, no issue, south is a bit more of a problem as you have to bust a U at twin peaks or similar, and the same with trying to go east on I-10, but there are plenty of places to turn into like Reiger road for U turn

The issue at I10 / Siegen with the backup onto I10 is caused by a-hole drivers on Siegen blocking the intersection when the light turns red making it so people getting off the interstate can't turn. Not sure there is a solution for the idiot on their cell phone that pulls into the middle of the intersection on a yellow light and fricks it all up.

Sweet fancy tap-dancing Moses.
The Apocalypse is upon us. We actually agree upon something.
The traffic engineer who devised that Charlie Foxtrot needs to he hoisted up on a flagpole by his nuts.

I see it as the people turning onto the interstate as being the issue
there are only a handful at times(10-12) that stop the entire flow of traffic causing compression effect congestion. Make those people loop under or U at a non-major intersection.

The left turn from I-10 WB onto seigen is awful most of the time. During non peak hours, its already faster to just merge right, and take a uturn at that first signalized intersection. 90% of the time you will go through the intersection at Seigen/I-10 faster than those waiting for the left turn

yes, and the loop is already there in a way.
no left turns out of market place.
when you remove the left turn lanes onto I-10 east and west, you have the room for a U to be made at Reiger road.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to synchronize the lights like they were when they first opened all of that. I don't remember that area being that bad when the lights were synchronized.

ROUNDABOUT - All I needed to read was "traffic"

And the lights aren't synced.
I find it incredibly funny that they built this huge 5 lane perimeter road around walmart, lowes, etc. and 80% of the traffic traipses through the center 3 lane road to get to the stores.
Additionally, they have one freaking light to control all of that traffic. At the very least, there should have been an overpass to Reiger, or extensions to Pecue.
Literally, this has to be the worst designed shopping center in the city. Great example for how fricked BR is in regards to infrastructure.
DDI would work...

I don't think a DDI can account for all that's going on in that area.
You're leaving Bethany Church and want to go home to Pelican Point, for example... so you have to take Reiger Rd. to a light at Siegen, then probably have to wait for another light at the I-10 exit, then definitely have to wait for another light to turn left onto eastbound I-10. How fricking annoying.
My immediate thought is that I-10 westbound should exit onto Reiger Rd. and there should be a U-turn before Siegen under the overpass. When they reconstructed that overpass I didn't understand why they didn't leave room on both sides for u-turns, such as are common along Houston's freeways.

Siegen needs a major redesign.
1) Siegen southbound to enter I-10 East needs to be two left turn lanes and not one long one.
2) Siegen southbound to enter I-10 and head west turning lane needs to be separate from the turning lane to get into the McDonald's Taco Belle lot.
3)Several of the shopping center entrances and exits need to be barricaded and closed such that only traffic getting onto Siegen comes from the traffic lights. This is the case between I-10 and Industriplex.
4) Add right hand turning lanes at several key spots to get those turning right into shopping centers out of the main traffic flow quickly.
Down the road Siegen needs to be rebuilt and made four lanes going North South and service roads (Texas Style) on each side. Overpasses at Industriplex, Airline, and at the Target shopping center would be in order.
The current design with six traffic lanes and two suicide lanes is a major screw up.
I doubt the major rework will ever happen, but the other ideas are not too hard to implement.

Only in Louisiana will you see service roads that lead to nowhere.
They essentially need to do what they did at Bluebonnet and the mall for Siegen and Pecue, then build service roads all the way to Highland.
