What can realistically be done about the surge in volent crime in American cities?

Violent crime is way up in the US, along with recidivism.
Memphis had a particularly violent week with three high profile incidents, all involving people that were previously charged with violent crime.
What can realistically be done to fix this issue? Citizens shouldn't have to worry about being abducted, raped, murdered, or robbed at gunpoint. You should be able to be left the frick alone in American cities if you wanted to.

Its a relative few doing most of the crime. The answer is long term incarceration for violent criminals.

Broken window policing, the court system has to be tougher on violent crime, no early releases.

I guarantee 90% of the crime came from people without a strong father figure.

Their job is to look out for the citizens of the community and the victims of criminal activity. Not to be a public defender.

Punish criminals according to the laws on the books. Build more prisons as needed. Deport illegals who commit crimes.

Elect competent judges and DAs that will push for convictions and give higher sentences
Fund our police force - boost salaries and training. Change the media narrative painting police as villains
Encourage communities to root out their bad seeds - increase funds to crimestoppers etc. Make communities more willing to work with police to provide tips
Re-establish targeted policing of problem communities like NYC’s stop and frisk
