There should be an official warning to incoming students that the streets named after presidents are dangerous and to be avoided.
You'd have to be blind to think otherwise.

Sadly, what's best for LSU, and seemingly for anyone outside of the residents of north BR, is not part of Mayor Broome's agenda.
She doesn't even want what is best for them, she wants to find more ways to give them handouts and pardon them of all wrongdoing while blaming whitey.

Be like the University of Alabama and use a "machine" type organization to get students out voting in municipal elections. If the non-student population of Tuscaloosa is deciding local elections, they're not going to be electing good reps that have the University's interest in mind. The university ACTS like they're mad about the Machine getting student voters out to get Pro-UA reps, but they aren't.
The difficulty in that is that Baton Rouge is much more of a city outside of LSU than Tuscaloosa is outside of UA. LSU has pretty poor city planning in my opinion. They shouldn't be building new student housing way down at 30 & Ben Hur and Burbank & Ben Hur. They should be razing Tigerland and the north side of Campus along Highland and turning that into a ~100% nice/new student housing area.

We all know the answer.

LSU can barely afford to maintain buildings and cut grass. They don't have much muscle to flex.
LSU had partners lined up 10-15 years ago to renovate the president and state streets areas. 1-2 backed out and it snowballed then the budget cuts hit LSU very hard. All those plans went to waste.

That new student housing along Ben Hur is going to frick LSU for decades to come. It'll be great for ten years then a nightmare for 30.
As for Tigerland, from what I understand, years ago, someone put a building restriction in place that limited it to two story buildings. Nobody is going to spend the money to buy and bulldoze all of it without being able to build some giant complex... which will, unfortunately, eventually fall back into the hands of Section 8.

Not sure you know what xenophobia means.
This goes way beyond crime, to include infrastructure, etc.
LSU provides a lot for Baton Rouge, but gets nothing in return. LSU should demand a bigger seat at the table.
But crime is an issue, and whether you felt unsafe or not is irrelevant. Perception, especially among out-of-state parents, is that it is a problem.

LSU can't even get funded by it's own state, how can they fix Baton Rouge. That's the mayor's job, but when is the last time BR has had a qualified mayor.

McHugh and Screen did nothing to further Baton Rouge and all Holden did was shake hands and travel to foreign countries. Thank god for term limits.

OP, you do realize that LSU is publically funded, a state institution? Its not IBM or Exxon who, as a private entity, can threaten to move. You think LSU controls where it plays its games or how many are home/away games? Pretty sure the SEC has a say in that as well. LSU cant do anything other than offer platitudes towards EBR and the surrounding areas.

Of course it's the mayor's job. The question is, what can LSU do to force the mayor and city council to do its bidding?
Does LSU have lobbyists? Surely it doesn't take much political contributions to influence local politics.
LSU should be heavily involved in local politics, donations, etc.

Yes, LSU controls where all it's home games are played.
If LSU wanted to play every home game in Houston, they could. They wouldn't, but could.
Just one game per year costs Baton Rouge millions.

The SEC has a say in SEC scheduling, but LSU could play their home games somewhere else if they really wanted to.
And obviously LSU does their own out of conference scheduling.

Hire hit men to kill the race baiting jackasses that cause division to gain political prominence? Then we'd be free to try to improve race relations in the city.

This. The Central State Hospital grounds, that has been rumored to move in the past, would be perfect for a new campus. Riverfront property too. Plus they have 3 bridges that cross the Red River from Pineville to Ellic.

That would be an empty threat though, and everyone knows it. LSU isn't going to just give up revenue from home games to send a message to BR as a whole.
Cough, season opener neutral site games, cough.

Fat chance, LSU makes too much money off those games.
