I was sedated for the tooth extraction and bone graft. I was also sedated for the implant. There was no real pain involved with either procedure. Also had no memory of the procedure other than the very beginning. I could hear people talking but couldn't understand what they were saying and it sounded like they were far away.
All in all it wasn't bad except for the big hit to the wallet. It wouldn't be so bad if the dentist would let me use the boat I paid for every other month or so.

my dentist didn't really explain what would happen if they just pulled the tooth, but i came home afterwards to watch some videos and it was mentioned that i could have bone loss in the jaw, the adjacent teeth will shift and the tooth that is above the one getting pulled with begin to fall.

I had an abcessed molar pulled when I was a kid, and I had a gap for a couple years, but the back molar shifted forward and the wisdom tooth on that side took its place. No bone loss.

Probably not something I would fool around with as an adult though.

When they drill your old tooth out and do a bone graft it will hurt very badly. Get extra shots of novacaine and the strongest pain pill that you can.

Never go back to whoever did your work(hopefuliy a periodontist trained in implants) it should not be like that.

I had it done a couple of years ago. I don’t recall it being very painful. It will likely be a six month process from start to finish. It seemed like every step was 6-8 weeks of healing. I didn’t have a bone graph so yours may be longer.

I just had it done. Same issue. Pay for the IV and wake up with a sore mouth for a day or so. Was fine and only needed Advil. New tooth went on post like the put on braces in the old days. Was a 30 minute job, no pain or drugs.

My wife (no pics) recently had one implant in her upper jaw done, and the procedure penetrated her sinus cavity. This was even after a bone grafting procedure to build the area up before installing the implant. She had to be seen by an ENT doc to access the damage, and he determined that the damage was superficial, and it healed without issue. You won’t regret getting it done. Just do everything they tell you to in regard to post-op care and pain management, and you’ll be fine. Good luck!

getting it done on 2/8. i've watched youtube videos and it looks like it's going to suck. what's the pain like for those that have had it? was it worth it?

I have an implant. Didn't really hurt much at all.

Of course, it was worth it.

I once made a mistake of having a cavity filled in without the shot or anything. Never again. That grinding nerve pain is the worst pain the world. I’ll pay all day everyday to avoid that pain again. Call me a pussy I don’t care.
you always get the shot and nasty numbing stuff. if you don't this is called torture. did they make you sign a paper?

You can lose teeth due to trauma, body chemistry issues, and a bunch of other stuff regardless of how good your oral hygiene is.

The healing caps sucked worse than the implants.

I had 4 done at one time. They split my gums open and peeled the meat back from the bone. Not real pleasant.

The healing caps are just really irritating.

I opted to get braces and move my wisdom teeth in the space of my bad molar. Cost a little more but felt better about that then potentially having issues with the implant down the road. Also nice having my teeth’s straight.

^glad the picture of the implant was posted. I had an implant done 20 years ago and the thing I remember is the dentist grabbing a ratchet, sticking the thing in my mouth, and ratcheting the implant into my jaw like he was tightening valve covers on a 350. I felt every vibration.
