re: What are your thoughts on people who act like everything revolves around politics?

quote:- George Washington.
Both the Republican and Democratic Party only care about money and power. Both are equally destroying our country (and they don’t really care about the country, just power)
The die hard who blindly follow their party don’t even realize they are just sheep being fed propaganda by their party in order to maximize donations.
Our political system is group-think disguised as democracy.
Political parties, in some ways, are cult like. People adopt the party's platform as their views of the world. And they view issues not based on common sense, its based around the side their party takes on it.
Each situation is different and to have a tribal mentality doesn't really serve the best interest of the country as a whole.

It comes down to the philosophical discussion about this statement:
Do the ends justify the means?

Huh. The perfect post does exist.

Probably the self-congratulating moderates. Usually dull people who are easily swayed by social/traditional media who think that something like sports matter more than government and civil rights.

its beyond annoying. why people have to make their political beliefs their single defining characteristic and HAVE to bring politics into every little thing is absolutely beyond me

The people going on and on about sports at work or somewhere else are probably worse. No one cares about your fantasy football team or what Stephen A Smith said. At least things like, I don't know, wars actually affect people's lives.

Pretty much all national news outlets are nothing more than propaganda machines now. It's why I rarely watch any of them. I might flip on a national news network once every few months.
This..
I will watch the world news (CBS) if I think about it and I am around to watch it. When it comes to a big news story, I will read several different news outlets, but if there is information that isn't on the AP report.. Or one of the network sites (I mostly use CBS) then I just take the information from those others sites with a grain of salt.
They just want information to report. It doesn't matter how accurate it is, they just want to publish information that can only be found on their website or on their channel. And they do that until they eventually get the truth, then they just report it as if they never posted a bunch of shite information that was no where to being close to the truth.

Yeah but at least in sports, if your team wins most people are unconditionally happy.
In politics, even if your team wins, you are still perpetually pissed and miserable.

Someone at work like that. Constantly virtue signaling, pandering to natives and sees the world through a lens of conflict and oppression.
It's embarrassing.

I think its unfortunate that people largely can't have a conversation about politics with someone with an opposing viewpoint anymore.
I've never really been political, probably a conservative leaning independent, but this go around I finally found a candidate I believe in. So I have the hats / shirts / bumper sticker - I think this is a very important election for the country.
But the hate and vitriol spewed from both sides is just nonsense, its a complete farce which is used by both party elites as a way to keep the political and economic power in the hands of those who currently have it.
Regardless of who wins the upcoming nominations / elections, i'm happy to have at least had the opportunity to vote for someone I believe in for a change.

I kind of enjoy switching back and forth from CNN to FOX on big political news days - I feel like I am able to somewhat guide myself to a grain of truth in the middle and make my own conclusions that way.

Happened two days ago. A group of work friends sit down to have a drink and she immediately launches into a tirade about why she can't stand her conservative family members and that her now deceased father was responsible for all the problems in the family and his conservative views and this and that.
I suggested that I had a single conservative view (2nd Amendment) and she immediately got pissed and told me I was flat out wrong and close minded.

Knowing what is going on with the different branches of government in your country is important. Being up-to-speed on current events and proposed legislation is something more of us should aspire to.
The amount of people that think they fit in this category vastly outweighs the amount of people that are actually informed. The problem is people get their news from one-sided 'entertainment news' and facebook which is nothing but opinions and propaganda. Living in a echo chamber is probably worse than someone that is aware that they are uninformed.
