It seems incredibly exhausting, and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if these people die sooner than those who aren’t that miserable.

Agree. That’s why I’ve had panic rooms with built in tea bars added to each of my high rise offices in order to escape my executives who just can’t stop yacking away about that bozo of a president.

People that put politics as a reason for everything are not getting dumber, they are just getting louder. You have to purposefully run away from them these days.

I think a caucus should be formed, representatives elected and a public censure should be mandated for all such individuals

The only way to get true differentiation was to move more and more to the far left/right side of an issue. Now we have voices on the fringes making hyperbolic devils advocate arguments and drawing the willing to those fringes like political Pied Pipers.

I don't have the brain capacity to comprehend all that.

To OP, personally I for the most part only talk politics on here and nowhere else. Most of the time I'm lying just to mess with people, on here. I don't take politics very seriously. IRL when someone does wanna talk politics, having to wait on them after every comment to get on their phones and find a link to prove themselves correct or me wrong, is really annoying.

I don't care enough to wait for you to prove your point. Once a phone comes out I tell them they are right and I'm done, I'm not spending 20 minutes on what could have been a 4 minute conversation. I like barbershop talk, whether I'm right or wrong, it doesn't really matter. 90% of politics is all opinion anyways, at least in my opinion.

That's what annoys me the most, those who look at it more as a team sport than an intellectual and philosophical endeavor (which is often the type of person who acts like everything revolves around politics). People of that ilk are who have degenerated political discourse to little more than "no, frick you, my team is better!1111", often without having ever sat down to fully understand their "team's" stance on something and the possible (much less probable) ramifications of it.

Very much this.

When someone takes their party's position on 100% of issues, you know they're more like a sports fan than an intellectual. Party platforms aren't supposed to be purity tests, they're supposed to offer stances on numerous different issues and hope that more people agree with a majority of their positions than the other party is offering.

I've stopped talking politics, for the most part. It's pointless these days because no one wants to actually get into the things you mentioned...philosophy, consequences, etc. When century-old publications like the NYT are admonished for "bias" while new media, dirty money publications like the "Washington Examiner" are considered legit by particular segments of the population, yeah, without a common set of agreed upon facts, there's no intellectualism left in American political discourse.

I have never met anybody in real life who discusses politics much, certainly no one who tries to convince anybody about it, unless I am at an event where that is the actual subject.

Political "fans" are like sports fans. I don't like them going overboard but at least they aren't spending a lot of time talking about grown men playing children's games like that has some sort of importance outside the stadium.
