re: What are your thoughts on parents who let their toddler scream in public?

All I know, is when my brothers and myself were in public, or shite, at the house, with my parents (dad especially) he never had to tell us to shut up. We just knew. I understand babies not being able to control it, but once the kid gets to around 3, spankings should start happening. Letting children act however they want and get whatever they want is a recipe for failure.
And people wonder why kids are so damn terrible these days. If they ever got real discipline, they wouldn't act like fricking menaces.

I'm blessed with generally well behaved kiddos, so I won't judge others too harshly. I will say that our common tactic is to take the kids to a park prior to hotel check-in when traveling. I seek one out ahead of time (if there is one) and let the kids, who've been cooped up traveling, burn that shite off before getting to the hotel.
Now, in defense of the parents who let their kids scream in the store, etc, I have found that the best tactic to discourage that behavior is ignoring the kid. It's painful as shite at first, but the child figures out it ain't working and drops it.

Or, you could give him something to fear if he ever throws a tantrum, especially in public. If he throws a tantrum in public, it's because he/she has been conditioned to do so by lack of motivation not to. That means you are more lenient when youre not in a public setting and it's not translating well for you in a public setting. If your child throws a tantrum in public and you just allow him to without immediately disciplining him (whipping his arse), then every person around you knows that you dont do it at home as well.

We need to add perfect parenting and having perfect toddlers to the description of your average OT poster.

You have no idea what you're talking about

I know, it's already been established that you "frankly dont give a shite what your child does in public". I know the rest of us appreciate that. I also know that you dont believe in your kids working to pay for their own gas/insurance and that your wife doesnt work so we absolutely come from different moral backgrounds.

Agreed. My 2 & 4 y/os are also really well behaved (well, 2 y/o can be a beotch at times but she loves all the old people cooing at how pretty she is, so she's all smiles and flutter lashes 80% of the time in public).
BUT, kids have limits, and boring adult stuff & long car rides just CRUSH them. So before or after making them sit quietly for a prolonged time, we find a playground and let them run it out.
And cry it out can work if the kid is just being antsy and annoyed, but if they are tired, they can't control that shite. I think it's like a chemical imbalance or something at that point. They have no words to explain it, too keyed up to fall asleep right there like they do as babies, so crying is their only option.

They should be beaten with their children. As in you should pick up the screaming child by the ankles and beat the parent with it.
They'd both learn a lesson.
They'd both learn a lesson.

It's important to understand, they are probably so run down, that it's pointless to imagine they give one ounce of a frick about what I or the people around them think.

Or we were raised by good parents. Kids aren't some uncontrollable force of nature. You can teach them not to be little shits.

Honestly, this past weekend at my hotel I was more concerned with 5th grade travel baseball kids who were looking at porn on the public computer in view of the lobby, spitting all over the place, and calling each other bitches every other word.
This was all happening while my 4 year old toddler and wife sat on the far edge of the lobby and ate breakfast quietly. My toddler can throw fits sometimes, but we have been taking him out to restaurants since he was a baby and he knows how to act there. I thinks its important to start young and get kids conditioned to being in public.
To all the guys that say toddlers should never leave the house, they have never been around a bored to death toddler. I would lose my shite if we never left the house, I keep my boy active and busy doing real life stuff and he is much happier getting to explore the world.

anyone that has a child has had this happen to them. Its the parents job to help that it doesn't happen again. Babies and 2 year olds are a tough situation, but once they hit 3 they should know there are consequences when they get home. So the majority of the time it won't happen again. But it is a delicate balance to discipline a small child. It doesn't take much to bruise or hurt a child but you have to be forceful enough for them to understand you mean business. And its a totally different ball game when the kid is tired. If you are a parent you know what I mean.
And then they just have bad arse kids. That sometimes no matter what the parents do they are just little devils. I think those parents just give up.
But no one can sit there and say their kids never pitched a fit in public.

I don't like it and I'll also complain to management about it. So don't bitch at me when you get kicked out of whatever establishment.

For you dumb fricks saying no one with a toddler should go out in public I have one piece of advice: have a kid and see how much fun they have going out in public, then come back here and post about not taking them out.
Nobody forced you to have kids. You made the choice to have them now it's your responsibility to make sure they are quiet in public settings.
