I usually place my luggage in the bathtub when it's not being used. I also minimize the amount of clothing that comes into contact with any bedding or fabric sofas and chairs.

Check the bed?

If it has bedbugs don't stay there.

I tend to dress like this when I stay at hotels, so not much of an issue

Tbh this has never really crossed my mind as in I stay in pretty decent places.

The problems I've ever had have been addressed pretty fast.

I'm also pretty sure most reputable hotels would care about something like this.

I avoid hotels with bed bugs and guests who go to the hotel breakfast in their jammies.

here's a newer version thats been scientifically reviewed
just cinnamon oil essentially. all natural; just spray it on and around your bed after you check in and it will be dry by the time you go to bed.

EcoRaider is named the "#1 Effective Bio-Insecticide against Bed Bugs" in a study published by the Entomological Society of America. Among 12 bed bug products including natural, synthetic and professional brands, EcoRaider was shown to have the HIGHEST efficacy in killing bed bug adults and eggs. Due to repeat use of pesticides over the years, bed bugs developed high resistance. EcoRaider, however, has a unique mode of action to cause QUICK MORTALITY of resistant bed bugs. As a green product, EcoRaider acts surprisingly fast. Its micro-scale particles of active ingredients penetrate exoskeleton and attack a unique neuron receptor that only exists in invertebrates to cause IMMEDIATE PARALYSIS AND DEATH. Unlike many pesticides imposing neuron toxicity to human, EcoRaider's mode of action only affects insects and CAUSES NO HARM to human, pet, bird or fish. EcoRaider provides RESIDUAL EFFICACY for up to two weeks. Its 14-day dry residual has been shown to cause 97.5% mortality to bed bugs. In 2013, a collaborative field study by the USDA and Rutgers University confirmed EcoRaider's effectiveness in controlling bed bug infestations in apartment complexes, based on treatment and evaluation of 24 units in a NJ housing authority building. Because of its outstanding performance, EcoRaider has become a PREFERRED CHOICE by pest management professionals as a primary method of IPM (Integrated Pest Management) to reduce the use of synthetic chemicals. EcoRaider is categorized by EPA as a MINIMUM RISK PEST CONTROL PRODUCT and safe to use around children and pets.

and FYI, even the 5 star hotels in NYC are known to have bedbugs.

Lift the mattress.

They’re reddish orange, and there will be a lot of them.

Bed bugs are rare though.

They can be found in pretty upscale hotels, not just the shitty ones. However, shitty ones are more prone to having them. All it takes is some jake-leg bringing them from one hotel to another in their luggage and a hotel room can get an infestation without management even knowing it.

Look under the sheets on each corner of the bed.

i love the uninformed people on here screaming TRASHY HOTELS because they clearly never travel but want to seem relevant.

correct, even 5 star hotels can have this issue; definitely check recent reviews before you go so you'll be prepared.
