What are your opinions on getting a MBA?

From what I have seen, everyone has a MBA. If you want to get a Masters in Business, get one that no one has to stick out.

It really depends on what your current position is, how many years of experience you have, and what your future goals are.
I have a masters degree (not an MBA) and it has allowed me to attain two positions that I otherwise would not have qualified for (due to lack of experience). I plan to get an MBA within the next 10 years or so in order to move even further up the ladder.

I have looked at getting one in Operations Management, HR, or Management

If you're looking to move up in your company it's prob not a big deal. If you're wanting to go from being a SR level type engineer to a management position at another company it can really help. I was in this situation and obviously in the interview they ask about management experience then if none the second question was in regards to an MBA. I didn't have either at the time and you could tell interest was lost after that. Just something to note.

If you have a solid career path an MBA will be helpful.
For instance if you are an engineer and working in your field then a MBA can help you move up in your field.
If you have a degree in English and think an MBA is going to help you get a job in the business field you are wasting your time.

I got mine. Program was only a year made some connections and learned a bit. Helped me to get a job. If I didn't get a good scholarship it would not have been worth it.

I'm working on mine now. I've seen people get passed over for positions or raises based on not having a masters. I'm thinking it can't hurt.

I think the answer is that it depends. If it won't help you in your current organizational tree then it certainly can help moving to another company/position where MBA is listed as desirable.
I would reword your question because I think it's rarely a necessary asset. More of a nice to have asset.

I wouldn't recommend it unless:
A.) You're going to a top-tier program.
B.) Your employer wants you to get it and is paying for it.
I really didn't get a lot out of my MBA except for the actual working and networking with students. The pure networking with students is how I got my first gig at Eli Lilly many, many years ago.
