Golf course
Park(s)/equivalent
Home distance from offices/workplace <15 min, does this area meet our personal needs
State taxes, either income, property, and/or sales tax
Ease of travel to other locations/size of the airport
Does the city have any future events planned, super bowls, final 4, etc.
Do I despise the local college/professional team
Nearest LSU bar

Culture (not to be confused with culcha).
That's what makes Lafayette so great. The food, the music, the funny accents, the personalities, the history. Everyone here takes pride in their city and their heritage. It's what separates Lafayette from everywhere else.

Proximity to beach or mountains. Have to have one of the two within a couple of hours.

My wife and I were in the same situation a year ago. We ended up close to family.
Our list of priorities were:
Proximity to family/friends
Entertainment/Culture
Cost of living
We were moving from New Orleans, and I told my wife that I'd be willing to move so long as it wasn't a huge downgrade in terms of lifestyle...we ended up in Lafayette which is the only place that I'd compromise on that stipulation, due to the proximity to both of our families.
My wife had an opportunity in Orange County California, but I had just switched to a remote position and I don't get paid more for living in an expensive location, so that was basically out.
Crime, roads, and education didn't really play into our decision because there are nice neighborhoods in pretty much every city, roads are not going to be any sort of factor into my decision making, and we're going to send our future kids to private school so education isn't a big deal really.

Moved to the dfw area earlier this year. My main factor was crime.
Everything else falls into place.

Good Schools aren't necessarily that important. Moved to The Woodlands. Too Suburban for me. I'm leaving and moving Downtown Houston

Then you should base it on if you can afford private schools or not
