What are these giant grasshopper/locust things flying around Monroe?

They’re everywhere. It’s like the cross between a grasshopper and a mosquito or something. All over the place. The plague. I’m worried about my first born son dying next.

Probably giant grasshoppers/locusts.

I hope they bite your anus and then die in your butthole and get stuck in the jungled hair of your poopchute.

Horse lubber grasshoppers. They were around last year too. I’m not an entomologist, but I would guess it has something to do with us getting those giant Saharan dust clouds as they normally stick around dry arid climates.

So those thing flew across the Atlantic from Africa?

That looks like a foot long and several pounds. These are large but not that big.

In Lafayette they boil them in plain water and throw Tony's on them in the ice chest.

I’m pretty sure those are native to Louisiana
I’ve always seen them In the summer growing up in Plaquemines parish

Way back when, we would spray paint them. Resilient they are!

It’s just the picture usually they’re around 3-5” long

Clearly. Lubber grasshoppers, or the "devil's horse", are native to Louisiana and the southeast in general, and can be found across the state in the summer. Louisiana is hardly a dry, arid climate.

Mole Crickets. They suck balls and tear up yards but don't bite.

I don’t think whatever I’m seeing lots of are grasshoppers though. They kind of look like them but then again kind of not.

It looks like there are western and eastern lubber grasshoppers. The eastern are more yellow, and the western are more black.

I’ve seen both here in Baton Rouge

We dissected one of those in science class one time.

Definitely not mole crickets.
Their bodies are pretty small and they have big wings

Both of those look like they’re the size of a small cat

Why would that be a cross between a grasshopper and a mosquito
