I have an old, maybe 10-12 yrs Ruud 4 ton. Just had to replace out the thermastat, 2 capacitors, contactor switch, bypass the timer delay for the condenser. A/C guy said next to go is my condenser fan...

Not freezing cold for a 2200ish sqft house, but comfortable enough. I'm happy if I can get 5 more years out of this unit.

Probably a lot of folks had theirs replaced after the flood.

How much? I hear install prices have gone up due to demand.

A ruud unit should last 20 years minimum. The items you talked about replacing are normal wear and tear items.

My ruud is 24 and still going strong.

I have a 4 ton Lennox that I put in about 9 years ago. Knock on wood it is running good. My house is just shy of 1800 sq ft. I was thinking of doing one of those seasonal check ups. Haven't done one of those in about 6 years.

My condenser coil is thick with dirt. I will need to clean it soon.

I've been watching youtube about various ways of cleaning.

Replaced a 20+ year old unit last summer with an Amana 4 ton system. New furnace, evap coil, condenser, plenum and overflow pan. 9k for removal and install.

You went cheap on AC, your unit is way too small.

I'm so glad to read this. They are putting these on our new house, and I had no idea on how they held up.

Someone who knows more than I do can say whether or not if I am correct, but when you do replace it, maybe consider going with 5 tons. 500 sq ft per ton and at 2200 sq ft that is just over 4 tons so that might make a difference.

A new unit might cost you around $5k. I got a new one about 10 years ago and it seems like it was somewhere around there. The problem I have is how fast the house warms up. And I guess everyone has this problem to some degree, but on really hot days it gets to a point where my AC is only able to keep the temp inside manageable.

If you can find a $5k unit installed, you don't want it.

Shop carefully, go to the highest R Value you can afford.

For a 4.5 Ton unit, I'd presently budget around $8k-$9k installed.

Yes, I call BS too.

9500 SqFt and we have 12 Tons and could use a little more. At 20,000 I would consider looking into a small chiller / boiler setup. I would hate to see the utility bill on regular split units!

The following replaced 30 year old Lennox units.

4 Ton Inside and Outside $10,000.00
2 3 Tons Inside and Outside $8,000.00 each
2 Ton Inside and Outside $5,000.00

That is with a friend discount, all are Lennox replacements.

The new ones are not near as good as the old R22 units. We should have upped the 4 to a 5 and one of the 3s to a 4. I in no way expect these to last 30 years.

Just had an 11 y/o Gooman unit replaced in April due to leaking evap coils because I was tired of fixing small things on the unit every year.

My house is just shy of 1800 sq ft (non ot baller). I had a 3 ton 16 SEER Rheem installed with the 410a refrigerant. That is the new furnace, air handler, copper and wifi thermostat install for $4900. I don't plan on being in the house but a few more years so didn't need the highest SEER they were offering since I will not recoup my money.

2350 sq ft. (1850 downstairs 500 upstairs)
Split A/C Zones
3 Ton Unit & 3.5 Ton Unit
Both units are Amana

My FIL was a Goodman/Amana dealer at the time.
Him and 2 of his buddies put in the system on my new construction house.
I got it pretty cheap!
