Ive put 2 daughters through SJA already and my last daughter is a sophmore now. They have all loved it and my wife and I are very happy with it. My 2 older daughters were both prepped very well for college and both received scholarships. I think it is one of the 2 or 3 best schools in Baton Rouge. Not much more to it than that.

Op, if you can afford SJA...you should send her there. StM is a good school but SJA is superior academically by far

My daughter is a junior at St. Michael. She refused to goto St. Joe's as a freshman which is where I wanted her to go as a graduate of CHS. She now wishes she had gone to St. Joe's. She says the teachers at St. Michael are terrible and very lazy while her friends at St. Joe's are excelling. St. Joe's is much more expensive though.

My daughter and wife recently went to both open houses. SJA is more impressive than STM according to them. SJA is about $2k more. I wouldn't call it much more expensive.

St. Joe's usually is superior academically. That being said, most of the girls I know from there sucked their way to an MRS degree in college.

I think both schools are up there as top schools in the city. However, I would give an edge to St. Joe's in Academics. I think SMHS is a younger institution and therefore doesn't have the alumni base yet to support it with the funding and leadership it needs to get it on a SJA or CHS level. I graduated there several years ago and I think the biggest problem for that school is the overall attitude of the alumni, students, coaches, and faculty. That school has a lot going for it but nobody takes themselves seriously and most graduates cut ties as soon as they leave. You see less of that with CHS and SJA.
I feel the same way about LSU. Lots of potential and a lot of good things going for it but the university's students and the state don't take it seriously and only see it as a football team. No giving back, no volunteer work, etc.

It really depends on the personality of your daughter as well.
SJA has a bit of an elitist vibe that may not jibe with your daughter. It is also a much more judgemental and materialistic student body. The students are still very good kids, they just tend to have that upper class basic white girl mentality.
StM typically has the good kids from good families in the middle to upper middle class range and can be more accepting towards outcasts and nonconformists

I am a CHS grad. I see CHS/SJA alums excelling in college while remaining still close with their high school classmates. St. Michael's grads, while also doing better than average, don't see the same success in college in my opinion.
However, my family was on the lower end of the income spectrum at CHS. I felt very out of place at times, however I associated with kids who had similar backgrounds, mostly my teammates on the baseball team.
If you think your daughter would feel uncomfortable surrounded by people driving brand new cars and shite like that then I'd look into St. Mikes more. I know girls are much more in tune with that then boys.
