That's just a function of our size and lack of population density. It's a lot easier to create the infrastructure for high-end speed in a place like Japan and Korea (and somehow Romania has crazy good internet) than it is here.

Shrinking and commonality of the cell phone. When I started in oilfield in 1996 I was given a roll of quarters and pager. Had to find a pay phone. Later that year I was given a digital pager that could receive 32 characters so I could call that person right back instead of just calling the office when the first pager would beep.
