When I lived in DC, there were good deals to be had during an administration change (like right now) because thousands of people with high-end tastes (diplomats, bureaucrats, lobbyists and contractors) suddenly have to move.

Yes, it's impossible to fake a text message thread in about 15 seconds on the internet.
Anyway,
Furniture--people just usually want it gone and will take very little if you'll come get it.
Exercise equipment--ditto, plus they usually want it gone because it reminds them they're a fat failure.
