Honestly I don’t regret it at all. Corporate finance has done wonders for me personally, and the management classes have definitely helped me manage people and jobs more effectively.

I can speak for mine. More money more opportunities sooner than later. Pretty simple equation.

The ability to subject your coworkers to pointless academic exercises like SWOT analysis.

What would I do with that resume and education level?
Let me put it this way...if you have to ask then you are wasting your time.

MBA at this age and experience is great, regardless of school. I’d take a 46 yo experienced guy with an mba before a 23 yo just based on experience. No question.

If you want to move into a Product Management role the MBA is a checkbox that will get you there quicker, with an analytics specialty.

An MBA from Harvard, North Carolina, etc. you’ll usually get an interview. That’s about where it stops, it’s on you at that point.
If you get an MBA from the University of Phoenix, you’re automatically disqualified from practically any executive job.

It opens more doors than your high school diploma.

Perhaps I'm reading OP wrong, but my take is this:
1) He's already in the workforce, O&G in OT/ICS/DCS type role.
2) He has 3 years or so on current degree - before working towards his MBA.
3) If he accomplishes his degrees, he'll be 46yo at the time.
If the above is the case, there are better alternatives IMO.

The MBA isn't going to make you better, you are what you are. I have had a slew of disappointing employees who got an MBA and continued to disappoint.
My own question - if you are thinking of starting your own business, do you get anything worth learning in the finance or other parts of the program? That's the only reason I might consider getting one, but I'm thinking I can learn from those already doing just the same.

OP needs to sit and think about what his goals are and what will make him engaged and enjoy his work. Just going for and getting degrees doesn't make you better at your job. Perhaps somewhat more stands out on a resume, but you'll get weeded out quickly.

I’m an RN that got an MBA. Went from bedside care to analyzing every dollar in and out of an operating room, with an ultimate goal of a hospital c-suite job

Are you planning on staying in O&G?
At that point it wouldn’t matter to me, and is really my reason for getting more education. I realized how limited my options are when shopping around. But let’s just say it’s an option to stay or go. The idea of working my last ten years from home in a management capacity is very intriguing to me

I worked a couple of years in the first rung of management at a company that was once number 3 on the Fortune 500 list. More than half of those at this level had a MBA, and the rest were working on one. It was just a box you had to check to have a chance of getting to the next level.

If this is remotely true, they either own the company, have some dirt on someone high up, or there’s some serious nepotism going on.

I can only speak of my personal experience but I earned my MBA 4 years ago at 42. The MBA has been the difference between mid level management and executive management.
