For me it's been lost technologies of ancient civilizations. Primarily the cutting, moving, and raising of stone blocks some weighing 100 tons.

And yes, I'm aware this thread will bring out some crazies.

Old British comedy skit rabbit holes.

Lots of historical ones. Literary ones. The 30 years war fascinates me. Criminally underrated. Also the 80 years war.

I often get deep into reading about attacks undertaken by the IRA. There are a ton of impressive attacks, its very interesting.

Old rock and motown bands live.

Pink Floyd
Cream
The Band
CCR
Stylistics
Spinners
Temps
etc
etc

A close second is hearing a one hit wonder on the radio and trying to find them on youtube playing live.

As long as you don't look them in the eye, and you don't approach them directly, but angle closer to them, they'll usually freeze like a statue and you can take them out with a 22 at relatively close range on a stationary target.

I'm probably guilty of 100 hours spent looking at google map images of Belfast, etc. matching up major Troubles/IRA incidents to modern day places.

In general there are just certain events/incidents I take a particular interest in and like to visit in person or go rabbit hole on. I've done the same as to Germany/Austria (in person and online) - mainly trying to track down the sites of Nazi events etc. that stuck out to me from anecdotes in books but aren't really widely cared about otherwise.

I made my wife get drinks with me a few times at the Pine Bar where Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned and talk to a staff guy who was employed at the time. If I ever get to Dubai I'll probably do a bunch of research before hand and go check out Al Bustan Rotana where Mossad pulled off that elaborate hit and got caught on security video.

Phantom Time Theory: much of ancient history was manufactured.

What you quickly realize is how little written history we have that predates the Renaissance, and how much of our history is basically myth and fairy tales handed down for generations, and how much archaeology actually directly contradicts these narratives yet is ignored.

As a young soldier I went to Lebanon and got to go to Baalbec. No way humans moved those stones.

Currently fascinated by watch repair/restoration.
