I have several depending on what I'm doing.

Fishing LL Bean
Traveling Barbour
Running/Hiking Marmot or Gore
Tailgating/game Cheap Stearns Throwaways
I keep a couple of cheap throwaways in the boat and in my vehicle.

I have a nice HSM Trench Coat for the one (or fewer) time a year I need it.

From what I've read, that jacket will soak through if you're in the rain for any significant amount of time

Precips are great. You can get last year's at Sierra Trading Post for less if you like their colors.

I have a Columbia that's the best I've had.No water gets through.It has a liner that zips in it.But it's so air-tight that if you put it on in the Spring or Summer it feels like you're in a Greenhouse.
