I honestly think it is great practice to have a driver step out of the vehicle and to the back of the car rather than the Leo approaching the vehicle imo.

I got pulled over in New Mexico with two pistols and a rifle in my truck. Told the cop and all he said was "that's cool, just don't reach for em", then just walked back to his truck to run my info. Let me off with a verbal warning.

Are the police trained to say "tell me where it is and I'll retrieve it" or is it ever okay to allow the person hand the gun over to you?
Unless asked why in the hell would I inform him there was a gun in my truck?
I mean if things got silly and I was asked sure, but there is no need to volunteer any info about anything, unless that is you are a CC holder and are required to do so. This being a normal stop over a traffic violation that is.

Normally that would be correct but not here. I'm guessing you missed this part:
quote:
Over the intercom, he asked me to step out of my vehicle. I immediately stepped out of the vehicle

If Police has a mobile data terminal in most states he runs the plate when your pulled over. When Plate is run the registered owner is automatically run ascwell and if you have a CCP it comes back as well. This happens pretty quick. So in many cases the PO po knows before he even approaches the vehicle that there is a CCW.
Now in the MN case the passenger had the CCP so the officer wouldn't have known prior to approaching the vehicle.
Plain and simple do not yell out "I have a gun". Hand your permit to the officer with you DL. Allow the officer to disarm you if weapon is on your person. If it's in the vehicle let him know where it's located. Do this and your going home to bang the wife/girlfriend, eat a meal and sleep well. Act a fool and you could end up taking a dirt nap.

Seriously not trying to flame but if the person stopped starts making movements the police feels threatened by. What is that cop supposed to do in that split second?
Video is exactly to your point.

Let me be more specific in my post as to the point i was trying to make. I honestly think it would be great practice of the cops over the loudspeaker would ask the driver to step out of the vehicle with their hands up for traffic stops. Naturally, if you do it on your own, it would, commonsense wise be stupid. That is a given.

I always hand my ccl over with my license. A majority of the time the officer isn't even phased. Twice they have asked me where the gun was located and to step out the vehicle. One of those times the officer even asked my opinion on the gun I had because he was interested in getting one for himself.
Don't do any crazy stuff and the police won't treat you like a threat

That is correct. He was not a ccp holder. Department in charge of issuing permits stated that their office did not issue any permit to anyone with Castile's name.

Not sure if insurance would let them pull every single person out to stand on an active road, but I'm not an insurance agent

Oh snap. If true, that's quite the game changer.
Didn't hear about that.

Game changer for 98% of the country. If the facts don't fit the narrative, the other 2% disregard them

A sad thing here is that nobody wants to recognize what these two cops are going through... This is gonna haunt them and they will never be able to patrol BR again
Much worse. Their kids will suffer if they stay around here. Their families will feel the effects. They basically are going to have to uproot and relocate. Bad thing is they are stuck here locked down at home until a decision comes out

K he wasn't a CC holder got it now.
