the ACT core exam (which includes reading, math and English), the ACT plus writing, the ACT plus science or the ACT plus science and writing.

A 25 in 1997 is like a 20 today
That would be grade deflation. His 25 is like a 30 today. What would my 28 in 92 be today? I was in the top 5% nationwide.

Chances are good. It’s the damn unaffordability.

23 ACT
Take SAT at least once. Many times, because of the structure, kids score higher.

I'd try to get that ACT up with another try or two.

Just watched this unfold with my 2025 senior and his class.
He had a 4.2 weighted GPA (an absolutely ridiculous construct - if you take the “honors” classes, your GPA is what it is - no need to add a qualifier), 33 ACT, student body president, private high school, all the extracurriculars. He got in.
Kids in his class with slightly “less” academic cred got admitted - with caveats - or told “maybe try SELU or ULL.”
What was really striking was the difference in scholarship money. SELU and ULL offered mine not only full rides (including high end TOPS, room, board, books - the whole shooting match). LSU threw a little coin at him, but hardly the dollar amount that Southeastern and ULL put up.
This is not the LSU the previous two generations attended.

Because they required all juniors to take it in high school, regardless of fitness for college. A 23 is not a competitive score at LSU, particularly with the lower GPA.

Went to school with a few people who took the Pre-ACT as required by school or even ACT and just filled in random boxes. If you do that you will land somewhere around a 14-15. Imagine how many of these you would need to bring the average down to 18.2

I didn't go to school past 5th grade and scored a 27 in 2012.

If your kid can’t get into LSU, he/she doesn’t belong in college. Personally, if they don’t get a full ride, they don’t belong.

Per Chat GPT: As of the most recent data from Fall 2024, approximately 40% of Louisiana State University’s (LSU) undergraduate students are from out of state.
If it weren’t for OOS, the in state kids would see their tuition skyrocket. Instate in Texas costs way more than LA. You all bitch and moan about LSU and don’t appreciate what you have as an in state resident. Any decent school in TX is either impossible to get into or expensive as frick.
