For those who keep up with what is happening in Nola, it's not out of the question that they could be in a top 10 list like this.

East/East Coast: I've heard a lot about Chattanooga being the next Austin.
Wilmington, NC is very nice.
Augusta/Bangor/Brunswick, Maine are very nice if you can deal with the cold.

Midwest: Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Madison, Wisconsin

Southwest: Flagstaff, AZ is very nice and under the radar from what i've seen.

Can't go wrong with anywhere in Utah as long as you can avoid the towns that are 90% LDS. Colorado, Idaho, and Washington are all having a lot of growth as well.

All of North Texas (DFW) - freaking homes, buildings, roads etc etc etc being built everywhere you look.

There's over 100 new $300,000 and up homes being built within a square mile of ours

Chattanooga needs to work on being the next Asheville or Greenville, SC or something. Nashville is the next Austin (it's not really), and Chattanooga is several decades behind anything resembling Nashville.

Of course "decent" is subjective but I'd guess around $2500.

I've been to Seattle 4 times in the last 5 years to visit family and I agree that it is unreal what kind of boom you are seeing. Every part of the city and every neighborhood is just crazy.

That's about right I think, depending on neighborhood. The new buildings in Ballard are running around $2,700-2,800 now I believe for 2 bedrooms

Chattanooga is in a great location but it has too much ghetto to be another Asheville.

Too secluded in Pacific Northwest. I like to be east of the Mississippi.

I didn't think Asheville was all that great to live there.

I enjoyed the breweries and had a good time with my friends, but something was just off about the place. Can't really put my finger on it.

Not sure what people do for work around there.

no kidding but it has been like that since the 80's so it doesn't stand out on new lists, just keeps adding 100-150K people each year

I sort of agree. I like Asheville and what surrounds it, but I don't ever think I'd really fit there. I've been to a few places like that, where I felt pretty instantly that there was a cultural disconnect. San Francisco is one, some cities outside of the country, etc. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy them, just that I never shook the feeling of not really fitting in with the place. Asheville is unique simply because it's nearby and I don't recall getting that vibe anywhere else in the region.

If I ever leave AK, that would be my destination. It's the most scenic state in the lower 48.
