I don't think anyone's mentioned this yet but from what I understand, she spent a big amount of her early fame days interacting with fans on Twitter and Tumblr and such. She would leave likes or reposts on typical social media fangirly stuff, or leave replies and send private messages to users. It wasn't some big secret, she just tried really hard to present herself as an ordinary person who got excited about stuff the same way any of us would.
I guess she does less of that stuff now but there are probably more people out (compared to other celebs at least) who can sincerely say that TS connected with them on a personal level.
I don't pretend to understand any of that shite, but her checking account shows ten digits so she must be doing something right
