Why not just make a non plug in hybrid version of the same ice vehicle?

Why are these people stupid?

It’s like, oh let’s just skip a generation of vehicles people would be ready to adopt now.

I've been screaming this for years.

Give me a good looking hybrid that can do the following:

- Regenerative charging (like a Prius)
- Onboard charging (like a Prius)
- Takes gas (like a Prius)
- Can plug in (like an EV)
- Looks awesome (NOT like a Prius )

The amount of total nonsense people consider (whether they admit it or not) is mind boggling to me

The best answer is both, because I don't have a refinery on my roof.

Truckers are saying once you reach Fort Worth, there are no charging stations until California.

Alright let's take I-20/I-10 to Cali. Tesla has at least 6 Supercharging stations between Ft Worth and Midland-Odessa, 5 between Midland and El Paso, 7 between El Paso and Tucson, and 3 between Phoenix and the California border. These are all on the interstate and not counting any stations in the cities. So by my count that's 21 stations just for Teslas. Ignorant take by you.

This is actually still false. Power plants are more efficient at producing electricity than vehicles are at internal combustion, even when using fossil fuels in both scenarios.

Do you plug your car directly into the power plant?

Are you really not aware of transmission losses or are you just being willfully ignorant?

Still waiting on the equivalent of the Geo Metro in EV form, if they want mass adoption of EVs they will need to make a model under $20k.

Imagine a car where the cost to replace the battery is the same as the MSRP on a new one

Nissan Leaf's have been the most popular car here for a few years, replacing the Subaru Forester, and there is no Nissan Dealership within 600 miles.

Not really. At least in the US, most people don’t want to drive shitboxes. I think the Nissan Versa is the only gas car under 20k. People aren’t lining up at dealerships to buy one. Also there are loads of lightly used EVs under 20k.

What are the good reasons for government to interfere in the market in this way? Why does this make sense? Why is it a good use of our money at a time when the government is fantastically, extraordinarily in debt and people are struggling financially? Why, at the same time, is the government making ICE vehicles much more expensive for ordinary people with ever-tightening fuel standards and more and more regulations?
OK, so you are not in principle against the government getting involved in business - you just need "good reasons" that are approved by you?

Add the cost of replacing the battery on a EV in 10-15 years and let me know how the cost compares?

If you're going to use it for communting, drive one at highway speeds on our roads first.

If it's going to be just a car for local trips, it's probably fine.
Yea it is mostly local trips. I work from home 4 days a week. 1 day a week I'm driving about 100-120 miles rounds trip. I'm setting up a demo drive at the New Orleans service center to see how they drive. I was concerned about battery costs as thats the first thing people say as a negative when buying an EV but Tesla has an 8 year 120k warranty on battery. That alleviates that concern for me. Seems like the more frequent tire replacements are cancelled out by lack of oil changes and the savings on gas from home charging is quite nice.
